Question:

Top 10 reasons to get a puppy/top 10 breeds?

I had a husky for 17 years, rescued him from a bad situation and another husky for 2 years I rescued as well.At the vets suggestion I had to give her up when she growled at my 9 month old. My 17 year old husky died 6 years ago and since that time I have had a cat that I rescued from the pound when she was a kitten. She is great but I really miss having a dog. My husband is against the idea-doesn't want to be tied down to the house with a puppy. Please don't tell me to adopt one I have already done that twice-not interested in doing it again.I don't want to adopt an older dog- I really want a puppy this time.I like big dogs but am not opposed to getting a small dog. I have a decent sized yard-would probably get an invisible fence rather than a traditional fence. My husky would dig under and try to jump over the last fence I had which was 6 feet tall. I have a pretty flexible job in terms of hours and can actually take a dog to work with me.

Would love to hear suggestions on how to convince my husband to get on board with this!

Also would like to hear suggestions about breeds. Like I said I love huskies but am open to other breeds.

I live in New England if that makes a difference.

I have 3 children-one is away at college-one is a junior in high school and one is in eighth grade. The high schooler doesn't care one way or the other about having a dog-the younger one constantly begs for a dog and takes great care of the cat.

Thanks for the help!

  1. you can adopt puppies, but huskys

    rule and so do labs

  2. Since you have a cat I suggest a newfoundland.

I've read a lot about them and heard stories that

they are so sweet that one even watched over a

mother cat's kittens whenever she left them, (to

eat or use the litter for example.) I guess if you get

a puppy he'll get used to the cat no matter what the breed.

As for a way to convince your husband, you could take

him to look at some puppies and hopefully he will fall in

love with one. I hope this helped, good luck.

Here's my top 10 fav breeds:

    Labrador

    Newfoundland

    Sheltie

    Australian shepherd

    Corgi

    Golden retriever

    Pomeranian

    Bearded collie

    Dalmatian

    Papillion

  3. I am partial to small dogs so I  say a pomeranian or jack russel or akita. pugs, collies, mini or reg size. (love lassie)

Convince your husband that because you have flex hours and can take the dog to work, that he shouldn't have a problem. Your kids, or at least your youngest could be a big help in taking care of it since he wants one anyway. The pom or jack russel are high energy dogs that need a lot of attention and love to go bye bye. But they are people persons too and love to sit on laps and be pampered. at least the pom does.

I would still try the pound for puppies or go on line for puppies for sale.

    good luck.

  4. Mutts are always wonderful.

Adopt an older dog or a black dog from the shelter as they are chosen last a lot of times.

In personal experience: I have some wonderful dogs-get along with other pets and my daughter (age 2)-2 chow mixes, 1 border collie, 1 great pyrenees, 1 pom mix, 1 shih tzu (not for small children really but he runs from her so no problems).

2 were shelter dogs 2 were strays and 2 we bought. Once again-don't overlook the black dogs!

  5. I have a Yorkie (2 years old). They're small and very friendly. According to Wikipedia, they're known for their "playful demeanor" and are "generally intelligent, independent and courageous." It's fairly easy to train them too. My dog (Max) is very social, and loves to play with other dogs and humans. And, of course, they're really cute.

  6. TOP TEN REASONS TO ADOPT A SHELTER PUPPY OR OLDER DOG

    1.  Between 8-10 million companion animals enter shelters every year nation wide.

    2.  Of those, 5-9 million are euthinized.

    3. If you are looking for a pure breed, 25% of shelter dogs are.

    4.  If you adopt a puppy/dog from a shelter you are helping decrease the need for poor backyard breeders.

    5.  You can find an older dog with your energy level and the personality you are after.

    6.  They are cheaper to buy.

    7.  They will love you just the same

    8.  Your money will go back into helping other animals.

    9.  You'll feel better about yourself.

    10.  There's just no excuse not to.

  7. 1. Dogs are good guard dogs if you get the right kind

    2. There warm and cuddly at night when your husband is gone

    3. They are so d**n cute

    4. They are great to play with if your bored

5.they all around keep you company if your running walking ect

    I have no more sorry

    1. Doberman

    2.Pitt bull

    3 Mutts from the pound

    4.boxer

    5. Australian shepherd

    6. German Shepard

  8. our boxer just died & he was the best family dog but if you get one get a girl i've had both girls listen better ---our boys grew up with him & was crazy about him they just love attention & being part of the family

  9. Golden Retriver, German Shepard or Boxers! I have a golden... He is a pain sometimes but I love him to death... and mutts are also great to!!

  10. i would recommend a Boxer, hands down. They are the most fun, loyal, funny, smart dogs you can get. Mine snores, farts, burps, drools, snorts, plays, gets into trouble, and as disgusting as that sounds it is hilarious because he doesn't have a care in the world and you just don't see that these days. Here is a little quote from www.boxerworld.com- go there to learn more about the breed:

    If your boxer chases flies

    Or gives those heavy sighs

Soulful eyes to view you sadly

    Before kidney beaning madly

Maybe jumps high in the air

Sleep and snore without a care

With a faith that is unerring

    Despite what is occuring

If he tries to swim but sinks

If he's silly but, still thinks

If he loves you like a child

And is sometimes just as wild

There's a story to be told

Of boxers young, of boxers old

And it's here they get unfurled

    At our own place, Boxerworld!!

    lol, thought that was cool.

  11. i have two boxers, one is a brindle and the other is fawn. but they are great

they are very good to kids

my little cousins are always playing with them, pulling their ears and putting their face in theirs and they dont seem to mind and they are always willing to give kisses and cuddle!

and my two boxers are very smart. they know to stay in the yard, to sit, lay down, and to take a treat very gingerly out of anyones hands =]
