  1. There's a lot to do in down south.  Phuket is the biggest island in Thailand, and there are several excellent beaches. The waters are usually clear and very good for diving. There are a lot of tourists all year round, but slightly less during low season (rainy season), from May till September.

As long as you avoid the usually crowded Patong and Karon beaches on the west coast, you can easily find remote beaches for walking, jogging, or just relaxing. There are not many sights to speak of on the island, but perhaps that makes it all so relaxed.

Two of the main attractions near Phuket are the Phi Phi Islands and the Phang Nga Bay, with the so-called James Bond Island. The name comes from The Bond film "Man with The Golden Gun" which was partly filmed on this small island. There is a good choice of organized day trips from Phuket to both the Phi Phi Islands and Phang Nga Bay.

Ocean activities are the biggest draw for tourists in Phuket. Courses and equipment are available at most major beaches for scuba diving, Scuba diving as well as snorkeling in the lagoons with coral reefs. You can find plenty of good dive sites all around Phuket (shark point, anemone reef, etc.) but there are some world class dive sites you don’t want to miss for any reason. You can join a 5 days live aboard to the Similan Islands , a natural reserve where you can spot wales sharks and manta rays. There is also the number one spot in the Andaman sea, Hin Daeng , situated just few hours of speed boat from Phuket. It is important to notice than coral reefs were left mostly untouched by the 2004 tsunami.

You can rent wind surfboards, dinghies, canoes and yachts from many locations for those interested in boating. For a more colorful adventure you can explore the limestone caverns of Phang Nga Bay on guided tours in inflatable canoes.

While scuba diving is probably one of the most popular activities in Phuket, the island also offers many opportunities for more land-oriented outdoor activities such as mountain biking through the western range of the island. Guided horseback tours are also a relaxing way to go sightseeing. Phuket also has a few beautiful golf courses that were built on the remains of the tin mines that first brought industry to the island.

Those interested in an exciting local spectator sport might enjoy checking out the Thai boxing , or "Muay Thai", at Saphan Hin stadium in Phuket Town.  Boxers strike blows at and with every part of their bodies, making this a very thrilling spectator event.

I'd recommend Woraburi Phuket Resort. A nice hotel with good service. We specially recommend the rooms with pool access. That is pure luxury! Relatively cheap and great value for the money. I stay in 4 and 5 star hotels all over the world and from my perspective, this hotel was surprisingly good in every way! Great restaurants next door and Massage. Fresh fruit cart on the corner.  you can try this site http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Hotels...

, they have now great deals to book a room, up to 80% off.

    Phi phi islands http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Phi%20...

is also a must to visit.

These Islands are amazing both above and below the water. The movie the beach was filmed in Maya bay on Phi, Phi Ley. The main point of my trip there was to scuba dive but there way lots over other things to do on the island. The only down side is that it has gotten more developed in the past few year, But still worth the trip.

the best advice I can give is dont do day tours; they all go to the same places at the same time, so course it is always crowded. Take a little time and make a little effort. Hire long tails, visit Nui Bay, Run Tee Beach, Bamboo and Mosquito Islands. You will be well rewarded. And of course dont miss out on the diving. It is some of the best in Thailand.  Have a nice trip with your girl friend.

  2. 10 things to see or do in Bangkok alone is a difficult choice. Do you know about a temple that would make Madame Tussauds weep with envy? The have wax statues of monks that are _much_ more detailed than the good folks at Madame T's workshop can even dream of. Not a tourist attraction, you have to find it. (It's close to Pattanakarn Road in On Nuch area.)

But my recommendation is doing a bicycle tour. It'll give you a chance to see where common Thai people live and work. You see in 5 hours more of Thai society than most expats in 5 years. No experience necessary, all you need is be able to ride a bicycle.

  3. yes there is sooo much to do in thailand and in bangkok

  4. see 1,000's of current 2008 Thailand photos at http://www.visualthailand.com Thailand's only commercial and advertising free website

A picture is worth 1,000 words and you will know right away the things you want to see with no false hopes

    Good luck on your trip

  5. when my dad was there he ate this beetle from the rice field. he said that you would take the back off and eat the digested rice from the 'stomach' i have always thought it would be cool to see one of the bugs, maybe you should look into seeing one? and if your brave enough try eating one???!! if you don't i don't blame you :-)
