Top 10 weapons in the game of tennis - Part I
If life was a video game, Bettor.com takes a look at the top 10 weapons that any tennis player would need to succeed in international tennis tournaments across planet Earth. This sequence is relative to the overall game played by individual players. For
instance, Andy’s serve is superior to Samantha Stosur’s. However, the Australian’s serve is just too strong on the women’s tour that it outperforms Roddick's serve in the men's side on its comparative effectiveness.
10. Andy Roddick power serves
Roddick’s serve was once renowned to be the very best in the men’s game. During his peak, Andy’s serve could carry the American quite far in Grand Slam tournaments. A few years ago, Roddick’s serve could have comfortably been ranked amongst the top three
weapons without any doubt. However, Roddick is getting older by the day and his serve is losing its effectiveness. In spite of the fact that his serve is still one of the very best on the tour, its accuracy and consistency has gone down considerably.
9. Woman power: Samantha Stosur’s serve
The Australian tennis ace has made it big with this weapon alone in international tennis. She reached the final of the French Open by decimating opponents through her serve. Although world number one Serena Williams can debate on this issue, but Stosur’s
serve is second to no one. There is no argument however, that any other female tennis player would love to have her serve to be used as a weapon international tennis.
8. Consistent Caroline Wozniacki
On the court, nothing seems spectacular about Caroline’s game. However, when you take a deep look, you realize that the professional tennis star from Denmark is nothing less than a human backboard. She can get the better of any player on the tour, and has
the pace and additionally the power to make it extremely effective, unlike some of the other players from the women’s side who only go out and rally. The Dane is the closest contender in the women's game to Nadal. However, she needs to add variety in her weaponry
in order to excel further. The most amazing incident that occurred during the recently concluded United States Open was her unforced errors in the semi-finals.
7. John Isner’s serve
American tennis ace John Isner is a contender with limited play-making aptitude and mobility on the tour. However, he has done a great job in improving his rankings over the recent past. It is next to impossible to break his serve when the American is powering
it through. During Wimbledon 2010, John held his serve on 69 occasions in a row during the fifth set. The record is enough to prove the claim.
6. Novak Djokovic returns
There’s one reply to all the big serving machines - Novak Djokovic. The Serbian can tackle pretty much any serve on the tour. This is the reason why he is ranked as the third best in the world, despite having such an average serve. The announcers at the
United States Open made a huge deal about how Djokovic was the only player in the top 50 to average more double faults in comparison to the number of aces. However, what they actually failed to point out is that Djokovic might be the best player on the tour.
