Top 20 Golf courses, Whistling Straits (Part 2)
The human civilization has always managed to influence nature in its own way just as golf has always been affected by the golf course. While the fate of our existence is largely dependent on the changes in the environment, the golf scores are directly concurrent to the changes in the golf fields.
Making a series of holes, bunkers, fairways and hazards of high quality is not an easy feat. Many landscape designers focus on making golf courses that visually gratifying as well as playable. While they can’t help mixing nature and golf on the same field, we can’t ignore the top 20 golf courses in the world.
Whistling Straits:
This is a luxury resort situated in Kohler, Wisconsin owned by the Kohler Company subsidiary.
Whistling Straits consists of 2 courses in total that have been built by Pete and Alice Dye like the Kiahwah Island Golf Resort.
The Straits is regarded as one of the flagship courses in Whistling Straits and imitates the ancient seaside links courses situated in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The best feature of the golf course are the enormous rolling greens, cavernous bunkers, dunes and winds that brush off from the nearby lake, thus earning position number 14.
Blackwolf Run:
This is the second golf course that is situated in the Kohler Wisconson area and was designed by Pete Dye.
The Blackwolf Run is situated alongside the glacial river basin and was awarded as the honour of being the best new public golf course after its inaugural.
The 18-hole golf course was opened in 1988 where it hosted the U.S Women’s open.
Pinehurst Country Club:
This golf course stands at number 12 on our world class golf clubs and dates back to the eighteen nineties. The Pinehurst Country Club was made in 1894 at the Sand Hills, North Carolina.
The hub of Pinehurst Country Club has a total of 8 golf courses that are all outstanding in their make and contains the most holes than any golf course ever.
If the designs are compared, the course number one of this area is the most attractive and pictorial of all. Other than that all the courses hold the same amount of bunkers, fairways and dunes.
The 1999 U.S. Open was held in this golf course where Payne Stewart stood out as the winner. He played an amazing 15 foot putt on the last hole to grab the victory but later died in an airplane crash. The U.S. Open, unfortunately, was the last major tournament Stewart played.
Chambers bay:
This golf course is designed like the Scottish links courses and is located on the Puget Sound in University Place.
The course was inaugurated in the year 2007 and is held by Pierce Country and was initially only a collection of sand and gravel. The golf course in Washington is said to have a unique golf course design.
Chambers bay has recently held the U.S. Amateur 2010 and will also be holding the 2015 U.S. Open due to its high class layout.
Harbour Town:
This is another golf course designed by the much respected Pete Dye along with the help of Jack Nicklaus and was opened in the year 1967. This golf course has been the top ranked golf course at its inaugural years and has remained on the top of the list ever since.
The Harbour Town is placed in the mesmerizing Sea Pines Plantation in South Carolina. The Hilton Head Island course is the host of Verizon Heritage golf Tournament on the PGA Tour every season.
