Top 25 Possible January Transfer Targets (Part 3)
Gabriel Milito (Barcelona):
The Argentinean’s time at Camp Nou has been plagued by injuries that have made him miss almost 2 years. For this reason, he has been unable to find a place in the starting line-up and Barcelona might now want to offload the 30 year old.
Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool and possibly, Everton/Newcastle may love to get their hands on the defender for a cut-price.
Luis Suarez (Ajax):
The 23 year old Uruguayan has been constantly linked with many Premier League clubs. His 49 goals from 48 games last season show how much the Ajax hit man is good at scoring goals.
However, he would be more inclined towards a move to Spain where he might adjust more easily after having seen his Uruguay teammate, Diego Forlan flourish for Villareal and not Atletico Madrid.
Fernando Torres (Liverpool):
The Liverpool striker doesn’t seem much happy about the current situation at Anfield and seems to lack the desire of scoring goals that had made him a fan favourite when he first joined the club. He almost left the club in summer but was persuaded by the
new manager Roy Hodgson to stay.
But, his stay hasn’t turned things around as Liverpool are having a hard time in coping with even the weakest of oppositions. He isn't scoring goals either and has seen a dip in form. But, he is still one of the best strikers in Europe and many English as
well as Spanish clubs would be monitoring him. They are likely to bid for the Spaniard as soon as the transfer window opens.
Karim Benzema (Real Madrid):
The French reportedly snubbed Manchester United to join Real Madrid from Olympique Lyon last season but has struggled to this date.
Benzema scored only 9 goals last season and didn’t even make it into Raymond Domenich’s France squad for the World Cup in South Africa. He might be offloaded if Real Madrid are able to sign Luis Suarez. Many English clubs would want to sign the striker.
Romelu Lukaku (Anderlecht):
The 17 year old striker is likened to Didier Drogba and a bidding war has already started between Chelsea, Inter Milan, Arsenal and Tottenham for him.
He has scored 7 times in just 10 matches after netting 19 last season. Tottenham have already seen a £17.5 million bid turned down so a more reasonable offer might make Anderlecht say yes.
Ganso (Santos):
Yet another Brazilian sensation from Santos is making the headlines and the midfielder seems to be on Chelsea and Manchester City wish lists. The attacking midfielder is considered more talented than Neymar who was pursued by Chelsea throughout this summer.
The youngster is untested in the Premier League but if he comes in the January transfer window, he won’t be cup tied as he has not played in UEFA tournament this season. The attacking midfielder is in the same mould to Kaka and got his 1st international
call up after Brazil’s disappointing World Cup.
Per Mertesacker (Werder Bremen):
The German centre back is in the transfer speculation after a successful World Cup campaign and a move to Arsenal is on the cards. Manchester United are also rumoured to be interested in the centre back and might want to cash in on this opportunity as the
defender’s contract runs until 2012.
Chances are that the German would prefer staying at Werder Bremen till this summer and would then want to have a look at things as they would stand by the end of the season.
Roque Santa Cruz (Manchester City):
City paid Blackburn Rovers £17.5 million for the Paraguayan in 2009 but the tall striker found the net only 4 times in 23 games. City boss Mancini is ready to let him go in January while Fulham and Aston Villa are already sniffing a chance.
The 29 year old might prefer a move to Craven Cottage as he will get a chance to link up there with his former boss, Mark Hughes under whom he played during his successful time at Blackburn.
