Top-3 golfers of the world facing troubles at the US Open, is it the course or just them?
The US Open has finally kicked off as the best in the world of golf compete in hopes of winning a major championship.
World number one Luke Donald started the US Open with his first major win in mind. His start to the golf mega event was disappointing.
Donald’s first round was a combination of poor precision and a load of pressure on his shoulders. He could not hit a single birdie and gave an average play at the start of the US Open.
He seemed confident and looked promising earlier. His aim to win his first major championship in the form of the US Open is fading, keeping in mind his first play-off at the tournament.
World number 2 Rory McIlroy also gave a terrible play-off but was a little better than Donald. Although McIlroy was not at all as promising as he was at the St. Jude Classic, the tournament that he won eventually, he was still better than Donald.
Lee Westwood, world number 3, had a comparatively decent form. He was better than both the top-two players and has a better chance of proceeding to the final rounds.
Donald requires a re-boot of his form. His start to the US Open was terrible and if he continues with the current form, he may be saying good bye to his number one spot after the tournament ends. He seemed worried and was not satisfied with his play.
“There aren't that many opportunities out there. Some hole locations with the firmness of the greens and the direction of the wind, the best case you're going to do is 20 feet... So it's a challenge,” said Donald.
McIlroy also found the course disturbing and admitted having difficulties in his first game at the US Open.
“It's just so tough here if you put yourself out of position at all, it's tough to make your pars from there, I was just too many times in the wrong position off the tee or with my second shot. When you're trying to play catch-up on this golf course, it's
very hard,” said the world number 2.
The start to the US Open has been a little shaky for the top-3 players of the world. It is about time that they focus on the right things and avoid complaining about the course as they are much better than a bad course.
