Top-3 teams at the prelims of 2012 CEV Champions League - Women's Volleyball
The preliminary round-robin of the 2012 CEV Champions League is underway with twenty club teams from different European countries. The prelims officially started off on November 25 and will be continue to January 18. Teams are playing in the classification
of five pools, where each pool is composed of four teams. The Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV) is the sole authority that is monitoring all the operations of the tournament. There have been some great matches and thrilling encounters in the first
three legs of the preliminaries. So far, the following three teams are staying on top:
RC Cannes (France) – Pool A – 9 points Fenerbahce Universal (Turkey) – Pool B – 9 points Azerrail Baku – (Azerbaijan) – Pool D – 9 points
RC Cannes
The French ladies of RC Cannes have showcased a wonderful performance in Pool A of the 2012 CEV Champions League Prelims. They appeared in three matches and clinched absolute success. They are still undefeated with a total of 9 points. RC Cannes started
the campaign at home. They held off Italian MC-Carnaghi VILLA CORTESE for a 3-1 victory in the first leg of the prelims and bagged three points. The French side achieved victory against Turkey’s Eczacibasi Vitra with the identical score of 3-1 in the next
match. The Turkish city of Istanbul hosted the contest but the hosts could not profit from the home advantage. In the third match, RC Cannes defeated the German ladies in straight sets. The SCHWERINER SC travelled all the way to France to play this match
but returned home with heavy hearts. At the end of third leg of preliminary robin round, RC Cannes emerged as the No. 1 team in Pool A.
Fenerbahce Universal
The Turkish team of Fenerbahce Universal is also going strong in the prelims. They played three matches, two of which were staged on their home turf. Turks were challenged by German team in the first match of tournament. The TVF Complex in Istanbul provided
the winning edge to home team and Fenerbahce achieved straight set victory over Dresdner SC of Germany. The winning Turkish team carried the momentum into the second leg of prelims and sidelined ASPTT MULHOUSE of France. French ladies failed to cope with the
power of the charged up visiting team and dropped the decision in three sets. Fenerbahce added three more points to its count by winning the next match against Belgium’s Rabita Baku in the third leg. Fenerbahce climbed up to the top position in Pool B with
9 points.
Azerrail Baku
Azerrail Baku is No. 1 team in Pool D of 2012 CEV Champions League Prelims. The Azerbaijani team appeared in 10 sets during last three matches. They clinched straight sets victory in two of the matches, while won one match at the expense of one set. They
defeated 2004 Tomis CONSTANTA of Romania in the first match and extended the winning streak by beating Italian Volley Bergamo in the next match. They remained on the same winning course and earned victory against Vakifbank TTelekom ISTANBUL in the third match.
All three teams are enjoying great form and looking good to grab more success in the coming matches.
