  1. Self confidence

    Self examination and understanding

Respect for ones self and others

Vital lessons for us all and sadly in short supply these days.

  2. Top three things huh? ....hhhmmmm.... well

other coaches are totally full of sh*t.

every one talks a big game until that cage door locks.

there's no substitute for proper technique.

Nah man I don't know you know it's like no matter what answer a brother gives, it's still only his view right?  I mean if I'm teaching my boys all the good thing s in life like staying modest, being calm at all times, living like a normal adult ( A higher standard in this day and age ) staying away from the drugs, and how to be real men as they grow older then I'm still just your every day normal dude ... like I like to think I am.

I am that I am and I cna't change being me, and I can only give credit to God for what I've become and hopefully have become favored in his eyes as well.  I live in the "Bible Belt" so all the virtues that the martial arts offer were already ingrained in me by the time I was 6 years old thanks to two smart God fearing parents.

"Drive and determination" is 100% of any battle and I tell my boys that all the time during training and even beofre they step into that cage.  It takes heart to want to push on in life even when times are rough.  I think that MMA has definately taught them that much.  Picking the top three things where the Martial arts have effected one's life is a hard call to make because life has so many bends and turns in it you know?  "Drive and Determination" should be the only "Top Thing" that any one picks up from the martial arts.  Decency, morals, humility, compassion and other such virtues are automatically come with the territory in martial arts and we, as practitioners, apply them to every day life.

Not looking to be best answer ... just stating the facts as I see them.

Edit: three thumbs down so far against "Drive and Determination" .... ok Noted.

  3. a few life lessons:

    - might makes right everytime

    - kill or be killed

    - you're only as good as your last fight

  4. 1: Confidence

    2: Patience

    3: How to teach.

I love everything about my martial arts training. I'm in high school so confidence and patience are really important for me. And because I love learning martial arts I volunteer to teach which requires a lot of patience, especially with the younger kids.

  5. Patience

    Anger management

    Teaching

  6. Amalgamation of mind and body

Increased awareness of a person's body language

    Increased courage

  7. defense against hostage situations

anti terrorism against (long gun defense) (grenades) (knives) (sticks)

function during the stress and shock of a sudden, violent encounter.

  8. No one is as dumb as you think they are.

No one is as smart as you think they are.

Treat everyone with the respect you would give yourself until it becomes necessary to do other wise.

  9. im not answering whitout thinkin:

    1. Theres nothing alike perfection (i,ve named it non-perfection)

    2. Control your senses and never get angry

    3. Theres no limit no ending in story and no last enemy

  10. Confidence

    self defense

    perseverance

    not in order

  11. After more than forty three years of study and practice in Chinese, Japanese, Korean styles, western boxing, weapons, etc., this one has learned:

    1) there is no "secret' or "it" that one will eventually get;

    2) the names change but the basic movements are the same with only slight variations;

    3) it is not the style or school but the practitioner.

A fourth lesson would be that my black belts and ranking don't even hold up my pants!  When one reaches such a level, regardless of who the same is expressed, it really means that one only knows the basics well enough to begin to wrk them out as a personal expression of the art he or she is practicing.

May it be well with you.
