Top 48 stars confirmed for Sybase Match Play Championship
The Sybase Match Play Championship, which is going to be held from May 14-20, 2012, at the Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, with the top 48 stars on the 2012 LPGA Priority List.
Tournament officials informed that they are happy to see the first 48 players confirmed for the event.
The players picked from the 2012 LPGA Priority List are not the only ones to make it to the final roster of the Sybase Match Play Championship, the 64-player event has yet to fill the vacant spots.
In addition to selecting players from the LPGA Priority List, the officials will also pick two players on sponsor’s invitation.
According to the details, the sponsor will be given the option to invite two players, who may be from LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) or any other Tour.
Officials said that the option to choose players from Tours other than LPGA Tour will encourage underdogs,  broadening their exposure to the much-needed media coverage and fan following.
Moreover, two top finishers from the ongoing Mobile Bay LPGA Classic will be picked to play in the Sybase Match Play Championship.
However, officials said that the number of the players from Mobile Classic can be reduced if the defending championship of Match Play makes it to the roster.
Tournament Director Harry Hardy said that he is quite happy that players are also being picked from the ongoing Mobile Bay LPGA Classic.
He said that everyone has been closely watching the event being played at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course, as the field is quite strong.
He said that the strong field of the Mobile Classic is the sole reason behind the officials’ interest, as Gladstone locals will have an opportunity to see tough players in the roster.
At the conclusion of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, 12 players will be selected from the 2012 LPGA Official Money List.
“We are excited to announce the first 48 competitors in our tournament, and we believe the qualification changes that we have made will allow more of the LPGA players to feel like they have a chance to play-in to the field with strong 2012 performances,”
Hardy said.
Some of the key players from the LPGA Priority List include the current world number one Yani Tseng, Cristie Kerr, world number two Na Yeon Choi, defending champion Suzann Pettersen and Stacy Lewis.
