Top 5 Centers in the NBA Today?

1. Yao Ming: I put him ahead of Dwight Howard because he has a high FT % and can knock down the mid-range Jumpshot unlike Howard.

2.Dwight Howard: He's a Beast, 20points and 14 boards a game is ridiculous, his only flaw is his inability to make freethrows.

3.Emeka Okafor: Prolly the most underrated Center in the League today, he's avearaged a Double-Double every single season since joining the NBA. Not to mention he plays good defense

4.Tyson Chandler: He's a Good inside Presence, averages a Double-Double and plays good defense. Shoots for a High FG%

5.Shaquille O'neal: As much as I hate his guts, dude can still ball. His numbers have decreased over the years, but he's still pretty productive.

*Greg Oden hasn't played a single game in the League yet, so he's not top 5 yet.

*My boy Andrew Bynum played well last season, but only played 36 games last season.

*Big Softies like Pau Gasol doesn't deserve to be a top 5 Center, he better prove me wrong next season.

  1. Bogut would be closer with no Redd. But atm defianatly not top 5

  2. I consider Okafor more of a forward than a center. So I'm going with all legit centers.

    1. Yao Ming - Has a package game, can score inside step out up to 20 feet for the jumper. Good rebounder, good defender and decent speed for someone his height.

    2. Dwight Howard - He could be the next dominant center in the league. He already gets double-doubles easily. If he ever starts hitting his free throws and furthur developing his post game, watch out.

    3. Tyson Chandler - He's improved so much in every way. Granted he has Chris Paul helping him , but on any team Chandler would be an effective player.

    4. Marcus Camby - Still one of the top defensive centers in the league. He can still get the occasional double-double and is a shot blocking machine.

    5. Shaquille O'neal - He's no longer dominant, but he's still Shaq. He still gets you 13 points and 8 rebounds per game which is pretty good since there aren't many good centers.

  3. 1.Dwight Howard:Poor free throw shooting for this guy ain't surprising. But a lack of post moves for a center definitely does seem weird, however, his outside game and penetration ability is awesome. If he's not the best now,he'll be next season by dropping at least 21-15.

2.Yao Ming:How does a better free throw percentage make a center better? What's important is how much they dominate on the inside. This guy can't play the post very well, but he grabs down rebounds like there's no tomorrow.

3.Marcus Camby. The best defensive center in the NBA.Grabs down 11 rebounds and scores pretty well too.Except he's getting a older. Will the trade haunt him,or motivate him?

4.Tyson Chandler:As much as he's a rebounding machine, this guy won't be anything with Paul in his team. For some reason, haters keep harping on him being the reason Paul is successful. This guy knows how to gather rebounds and build chemistry with his teammates.

5.Shaquille O'Neal.Even though he's old,he still drops 8 and 11 these days.Though his numbers were probably dropped because Amare is in the team. This guy has at least 3 years left.

  4.    1. Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs

       2. Yao Ming, Houston Rockets

       3. Shaquille O'Neal, Miami Heat

       4. Marcus Camby, Denver Nuggets

       5. Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic

  5. Howard, Yao, Shaq, Bosh, Chandler.

  6. Gasol's a power forward, and a good one 2. kaman's pretty good too man

  7. Yao Ming: the best their is right now, he has the all around game, plus can shoot better than any center.

Dwight:If he developed a jumpshot he will be UNSTOPABLE

Chris Kaman:He is a 20 and 10 guy many people don't notice that because he is in a crappy team

Shaq:He is still one of the best because of his size

Chris Bosh: one of the most underated players in the NBA he has shown everyone how good he can be

  8. You can make an Argument for Andrew Bogut being in the top 5

  9. Pau isn't really a center. I think he is going to be PF next season.

    1. Shaq [I believe he deserved a 4th Champ. MVP]

    2. Tim Duncan [He did something Kobe or MJ never did. Win without a superstar.]

    3. Dwight Howard

    4. Carmelo can be a great center... In the early exhib. games Kobe made him look like one, a good one.

You said "in the NBA Today?" So Shaq still is number one since he is still in the NBA

  10. Kwame Brown is the best, he can put up 50ppg, 18rpg, 5bpg and a field goad percentage of 75%.

OH sorry, I just type the best joke in this week's "NBA FUNNIEST MAGAZINE."

  11. I would put Emeka number 4 and tyson number 3 just for the fact that the reason he has averaged a double double all these years is because he is the only player on the team that can rebound. Chandler has west who avg about 9 rbs a game and he stil averages almost 12 rbs.  I also consider him a better defender because if you saw the series between NO and SA, he slowed down Duncans playoff prowess and made him average about 16 17 points a game while in hte other playoff series he averaged atleast 20 points a game.  I agree with you that okafor is underrated because of the dominance and comparisons people have made with howard.  I would also put bogut in contention for that 5 spot with the improvement we saw this past year avg. almsot 10 boards with about 14-15 points

  12. I agree with your list... I'll include the same players except Id move Shaq to where Okafor is.... Although Shaq is not as quick and gets called for many fouls, his precense alone sets him apart from other big men... How many players do you see going at the rim while shaq is down there? they usually just pass it to their big man to draw a foul from him or something else similar to that... Shaq's body is enough to intimidate most players no matter how old he gets....
