  1. Hi Killa,

When determining the Top 5 Overall picks, you have to think about the players that are far and above any others at their respective positions (Tier 1 Players).  I look at total fantasy point output from the previous season and determine where the large drop-off in points occurs.  Analyze the skill positions (RB, QB, and WR) and you see these players have separated themselves:

    RB

    L. Tomlinson (302 Total Fantasy Points in 2007)

    B. Westbrook (280 TFP)

    ---- drop off

    J. Addai (233 TFP)

    A. Peterson (232 TFP)

    QB

    T. Brady (490 TFP)

    ---- drop off

    P Manning (335 TFP)

    WR

    R. Moss (287 TFP)

    ---- drop off

    T. Owens (226)

So, if you go just by stats its obvious that Tomlinson, Westbrook, Brady, and Moss are heads and shoulders above the rest.  Since you're asking for 5 players we can go ahead and add in the guys that are on the edge and we then have:

    T. Brady (490)

    P Manning (335)

    L. Tomlinson (302)

    R. Moss (287)

    B. Westbrook (280)

    J. Addai (233)

    A. Peterson (232)

    T. Owens (226)

Next, you have to ask yourself if you think its worthwhile to risk waiting unit the end of round 2 to pick up your first RB. That would be a gutsy call, but if you take that route I think the only player that would justify that type of move would be Brady, and even then I'd only grab him at 4 or 5.  Westbrook gets the nod over Peterson because he was better last year and Peterson may end up losing some carries:

    1.  L. Tomlinson

    2.  B. Westbrook

    3.  A. Peterson

    4.  Brady

    5.  Addai (or Gore)

If you decide that you don't want to risk waiting until the end of Round 2 for your first RB, then just fill up your top 5 with all RBs:

    1.  L. Tomlinson

    2.  B. Westbrook

    3.  A. Peterson

    4.  J. Addai

    5.  F. Gore

Peterson is the s**y pick this year, but if you're not in a keeper league I'd go with Westbrook at the #2 spot.  If you check out the link in my source list I provide free rankings on my website and you can even create your own player rankings using drag and drop on an interactive, web-based cheat sheet.  It's free!

  2. 1. LT

    2. Adrian Peterson

    3. Addai

    4. Stephen Jackson

    5. Tom Brady

  3. LaDainian Tomlinson

    Adrian Peterson

    Brian Westbrook

    Steven Jackson

    Tom Brady

  4. 1. LT - obvious

    2. AP - pretty obvious considering how great he did in only 14 games last year. And he's more experienced now

    3. Brian Westbrook - good for 2000 yards from scrimmage and about 15 TD. He is the cornerstone of that offense.

    4. Stephan Jackson - played very good in the games he did play last year and is expected to be healthy. Is likely to go for 2000 yards from scrimmage and around 20 total TD.

    5. Joseph Addai - The easy #1 running back on that great offense. Will get alot of carries to take the load off of Petyon. (Could argue Frank Gore, Clinton Portis or Marion Barber here)

  5. Tom Brady

    LDT

    Brian Westbrook

    Randy Moss

    Adrian Peterson

Tom brady had the biggest gap between him and the second best qb last year and he hasn't lost any weapons. Randy Moss was second. LDT slipped a bit last year but still is the safest bet. Westbrook is still injury prone but has too much potential.

  6. 1. LaDanian Tomlinson

    2. Brian Westbrook

    3. Joseph Addai

    4. Tom Brady

    5. Steven Jackson

Some fast facts about Adrian Peterson: He played 14 games in '07 and rushed for 1,341 yards and 12 TDs.  He gained 520 of those yards (on 50 carries) and scored 6 TDs in 2 games. He rushed for 821 yards (188 carries) and 6 TDs in the other 12 games. He rushed for 144 yards (on 54 carries) and 2 TDs the final 4 games of the season, including a pathetic 3-yard effort against San Francisco.

If I'm drafting 2nd I want a player who's consistant and will put up big numbers during the fantasy playoffs. Peterson isn't that player.

  7. LT

    ADRIAN PETERSON

    BRAIN WESTBROOK

    STEVE JACKSON

    TOM BRADY
