What would you rank your TOP 5 things to see in Ireland? Not including Dublin, where else would you recommend? I am taking a 8 day trip, so after a few days in Dublin I plan on taking either a train or bus to a few places around the country. Some places I was thinking was kissing the Blarney Stone, Cliffs of Moher... Would these rate in your top 5 things to do in Ireland? And would you recommend bus or train (which is cheaper)?

  1. Most things in Ireland to do with sight seeing are dependant on good weather. While you are in Dublin you could visit Glendalough which is just over the border in Wicklow. it is a very nice place. If the weather isn't good then don't go. Sight seeing in Ireland is hard.

Kerry, Galway and Mayo have the best mountains and sights. And definitely, if you have the time, spend a day on Achill Island. It is the nicest place in Ireland.

Bus is way cheaper. Around 15 euro for bus and 60 for train.

  2. From Heuston Station in Dublin take the train to Tullamore.  If  you want to see something really worth it go to Charleville Castle.

Its off the beaten path.  Tell Dudley that Celeste said to go see it.

People in Tullamore are really nice.   The Castle is about a mile down the road away from the city.

When you walk through the gates you will see the oldest oak tree in Europe planted by the druids.

You will walk a mile through untouched woods to the castle.

    Enjoy.

County Clare has a lot to see and a lot off the beaten path

If you go to Newmarket on Fergus stop in at the Ashgrove B and B and say hi to Jude O Dea she can tell you where some more off the beaten path great places are around that area.  Newmarket on Fergus is near Shannon Ireland.

Then head south along N67 and you will see how beautiful the Shannon River is as it goes out into the Atlantic

In Tarbert catch the Ferry across and take the coast up to the cliffs of moher, the Burren, Galway and Kylemore Abbey, then  Connemara.

    Have Fun

  3. my dad said dublin is kinda a dirty city, but some parts are nice. He said smaller towns and the countryside are nice and probably the best way to experience true Irish culture.  Rent a car and drive anywhere. The country isn't that big, so it's possible to go to many places.

  4. Myself I have not been to Ireland but my daughter was there while stationed in Europe with the army and according to her the small towns are the best and as far as transportation it will vary. There may be times that bus is best and other times rail, it all depends when and where you want to go, so play it by ear and have a ball she says it is a great place to visit. It must be her and her husband (to be) are planning their honeynoon there

  5. From Dublin, you can get a bus to Cork for around €15 return (or train which costs about €60), and from the bus station in Cork you can get a bus to Blarney.

You can go on bus trips from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher or from Dublin to the Giants' Causeway with Paddywagon tours.  See http://www.paddywagontours.com/tours.php

  6. Bus is cheaper, though the train is much more pleasant and forget Blarney. The Cliff's of Moher are worth a brief visit, while there in Co Clare The Burren is an absolute must see. Connemara is very beautiful, Sligo, Donegal and Kerry are really worth the time, the at oneness, the peace. Northern Ireland also has some very interesting natural sites.
