Top 5 trios ever to form in the NBA history
This year, another great trio has been formed which includes Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh, who are being praised by basketball fans around the world. It is being said that they are one of the best trios ever to be formed in National Basketball Association's history. It has come to a point that they are collectively being referred to as “DeBrosh” by many. Some even argue the fact that they are the best trio ever to be formed in the NBA.
Since the Big Three has yet to perform on court, it can’t exactly be determined as of yet how they will be in the future; to simply claim that they are the best ever is juvenile.
It is, perhaps, too soon to place “DeBrosh” at the top of the previous trios, so let’s glance at history and go through the top 5 trios ever to form in NBA.
One of the oldest and most famous trios dates back to the early 60s, which was formed by Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West and Gail Goodrich; all three played for the Los Angeles Lakers. Wilt and Jerry are considered as the legends of the game, as they dominated every franchise by their relentlessness as players. All three are also featured in the Basketball Hall of Fame. The infamous trio helped beat their rivals, the Boston Celtics, by literally dictating them, winning three consecutive NBA titles in four years.
Right after the famous trio of the Lakers came the three Hall-of-Famers, Larry Bird, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale. All three were in the Boston Celtics and managed to achieve three championships for the team. Larry was known to be the genuine bad boy of basketball; he was extremely short-tempered and did not think twice before throwing his fist around his opponents. Robert was the Celtics' mean centre who would smack anyone who’d come around his region; he was 7 feet tall and was one big machine. Kevin McHale had an extremely competitive side to him, and he would not stop playing till he was out of breath.
We now move on to another trio which was formed in the Los Angeles Lakers: Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy from 1982 to 1989. The three formed a brutal force in the NBA, once again making L.A. Lakers one of the most feared teams ever to step foot on the court. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is known to be the best centre ever to live in history; his sheer power and height dominated everyone on the court, and his uncanny ability to take rebounds was terrific. Magic Johnson, who by many is placed right alongside Michael Jordan, is no doubt one of the most capable, smart and down to earth players to ever step on court. James Worthy, who is also a Hall-of-Famer, was also a man who did not waste any minute on the court while assisting his team through thick and thin.
The next trio on the list features the best player ever to walk on basketball court, Michael Jordan, followed by his minions Horace Grant and Scottie Pippen. The three dominated the 90s and were envied by every player around them. With tremendous help and motivation from the three, Chicago Bulls went on a winning streak in the NBA. They won titles after titles in 1991, 1992, and 1993 respectively.
With Horace Grant’s departure in 1994, Dennis Rodman soon joined the Chicago Bulls, replacing Horace in the trio. Now it was Michael, Scottie and Dennis; together, they formed an extremely lethal trio. Even though they were all above 30 years, their age did not stop them and they continued to dominate by winning three more consecutive titles from 1996 to 1998. The Bulls was formally known as Michael’s team, as everyone considered the team to be powerless without him.
The Trio that is going to be mentioned now might seem like the odd one out; San Antonio Spurs players Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker may not have won any consecutive titles, but together they have formed an elegant trio, which when present on court plays flawlessly, making them the best trio of the Millennium.
These are the best NBA trios that have created sparks both nationally and internationally with their extreme game-play and precision. In order for “DeBrosh” to be added to the list, they’d have to pass (and surpass) the standard those before them set.
