Top 5 women’s teams at the 2012 CEV Champions League Prelims – Volleyball news
The preliminary round of the 2012 CEV Champions League is underway with a total of 20 teams on the board.
So far, the first four legs of the round have been covered, where each team got the chance to play five matches. There is one more segment of the league round is left and then the top-12 teams will advance to the next round of Playoffs 12. The participants
of the European campaign have been split into five pools and current group leaders are as follows:
RC Cannes – Pool A Fenerbahce Universal Istanbul – Pool B Dinamo Kazan – Pool C Vakifbank TTelekom Istanbul – Pool D Scavolini Pesaro – Pool E
RC Cannes is the top women’s club team from France. The French ladies have strong presence on the centre court and they have knack of their work. The skilful RC Cannes squad played five matches in the league round and remained undefeated.
They are supposed to play one more match but the team is already confirmed for the next round of the tournament. Their performance in the prelims has been phenomenal as they have not dropped a single set yet. They are the top team in women’s category with
a total of 336 points.
Turkish Fenerbahce is the top team in Pool B. Quite similarly the Turkish squad contested in five matches and finished the fifth leg of the preliminaries with an overall record of 4-1. They suffered the set back in their fourth match against Azerbaijan’s
Rabita Baku.
Other than that, Fenerbahce launched authority over opponents and finished four matches in straight sets. They came across tough teams in the pool but proved their endeavours as the best team in the group.
Russian Dinamo Kazan is the second best team in the women’s European tournament. The Kazan ladies showcased their amazing skills in the league round matches and achieved 5-0 record at the end of fifth match. The team is headed by Coach Rishat GILYAZUTDINOV,
who has led the team to success many a time. Dinamo Kazan has big plans for the upcoming Playoffs 12.
Vakifbank TTelekom comes from Pool D as the top team. This is another great women’s team from Istanbul, Turkey. They earned absolute success in the first matches but could not deal with the power of Azerrail Baku in the third match and suffered the loss.
However, the team got back on track in the next two matches and scored back-to-back wins. They have one more match left on the schedule to play in the league round, next Tuesday.
Italian Scavolini Pesaro (4-1) has held the top slot in Pool E of CEV Champions League. Scavolini also lost one match in the third leg of the tournament but captured other four matches.
