Top Contenders for 92nd PGA Championship
For readers who went through the preview of the top two contenders likely to win the 92nd PGA Championship, currently underway. This is second half of the list. This list is compiled on the basis of stats that were collected from past records of major victories that took place in the previous or current season.
However, to give a quick recap of the top two contenders, the first player likely to win the Championship is Bubba Watson. He is known for his powerful shots and ability to hit the greens from the rough. The second contender is Dustin Johnson, who holds the record for delivering one of the finest exhibitions of putting in the history of golf.
Hunter Mahan
The winner of the WGC-Bridgestone invitational 2010, at Firestone Country Club is the third on the list of contenders. This American posted a spectacular victory in Phoenix. However, his performance has taken a dip after that. Although he does not fulfil the criteria of having a victory on the US or European tour this year, he might be an exception.
He holds the record of 8 consecutive finishes in the Top 20 of various majors. He did not make the cut in the 2007 Masters and consistently finished in the top ten. However, this record is not glamorous enough to make him a top contender at the 92nd PGA Championship. Currently, Hunter Mahan is playing very well. His competitive edge comes from his ability to tee off long and straight and he has the number one ranking in total driving distance. He stands at second position when it comes to ball striking that includes driving accuracy and hitting greens in regulation. According to the experts, Hunter Mahan should enjoy the pleasure of excellent putting abilities, as Whistling Strait is one of those courses that have a sweet tooth for putters.
Ross Fisher
The first Englishman on the list is Ross Fisher, who has all the credentials of being the rightful owner of the top position in the 92nd PGA Championship. As far as his achievements are concerned, he holds the title of Majors Cup 2009, which is an award presented to a player, who shoots the lowest score in all four rounds of all four majors in which he has qualified. He won the Irish open this season and took his chances in the US and the British Open. Moreover, he made the cut in the last four of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona.
In June, Ross Fisher was the runners-up at the BMW International Open, which took place in Munich. Only two weeks later he wrapped up a victory at the 3rd Irish Open at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club.
Moreover, Ross Fisher carries four European tour victories which means he is also on the Ryder Cup team. According to experts, Ross Fisher has the potential of being the best golfer in history, but for that Ross needs a little control and confidence. As far as this tournament is concerned, Ross has all his chances of playing the game the way he wants.
This was a preview of the players that are likely to be seen on the top of the leader board of the 92nd PGA championship that is taking place at the Whistling Straits, Kohler, Wisconsin. The course has its own requirements and the number one requirement being, excellent putting and long tee shots. The player needs to be the best at both of these yardsticks to win the Championship and the course itself. That player can be anyone including, Graeme Mc Dowell, Louis Oosthuizen, Hunter Mahan, Ross Fisher or even Tiger Woods. The championship got underway on 12th August 2010, and the name of the winner will flood all magazines and websites by the 15th.
