Top Cyclists move to America as USA Pro Cycling Challenge starts in August, 2011
On August 4, Governor of Colorado, Bill Ritter and Lance Armstrong made an announcement about the seven day stage race that will take place in Colorado from August 22 to August 28. Denver based Sandwich Company Quiznos was announced as the main sponsor of
the race.
Cyclists that are participating in the Pro Cycling Challenge have been announced by the race organisers. The top three Tour de France stars Cadel Evans of team BMC, Andy Schleck and Frank Schleck of Leopard-Trek are ready to race in Colorado.
Chief Operating Officer for USA cycling Sean Petty stated that the confirmation of some of the top players in the sport is a big achievement as this being the first year of the Tour and it will help promoting the event as he said, “It shows the interest
and intrigue in what will prove to be an epic battle through the Colorado Rockies.”
Along with the recent Tour de France winner and the Schleck brothers, Tom Danielson of Garmin-Cervelo and Ivan Basso of Liquigas-Cannondale have also been finalised to participate in the tour starting on the August 22.
The co-chairman of the race Shawn Hunter shared his thoughts on tour starting from next month as he stated that a lot of hard work has put in to the event to make it the best stage race in America.
One of the biggest names to participate in the race is Australian Cadel Evans who will be cycling in America after a gap of four years. Evans commented about the race next month as he said, “I’ve heard good things about the race in Colorado and I know it
won’t be easy. But I’m up for one more challenge.”
Three times U.S Professional Cycling Champion George Hincapie shared his views about the tour as he said, “It will provide a spectacular backdrop in Colorado for a great new professional stage race that will automatically become a major competition on the
international calendar.”
There will be a total of 16 teams and 128 cyclists participating in the race. The world’s top cyclists will be chosen from the best teams like HTC, Garmin-Cervelo, RadioShack and Liquigas. Race will take the cyclists at a height of 12,000 feet and temperature
at that height is 40 degrees less than at sea level.
