Top Five NHL Coaches that could be shown the door next -NHL Special Feature Part 3
There are some teams in the National Hockey League (NHL), after having acquired a number of talented players over the offseason, have changed themselves around right after the 2011-2012 NHL regular season kicked off. Then there are those which are still having difficulty showing any signs of improvement, putting the position of their head coaches in jeopardy.
Such teams which have managed to head in the right direction are those like the Minnesota Wild and Florida Panthers. Having showed huge improvement from their positions last season, both teams are now at some of the top positions in their respective conferences, making it tough for some of the big wigs in the league.
Scott Arniel (Head Coach, Columbus Blues Jackets)
Looking at Scott Arniel’s team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, in a raw manner, it is easy to see that he has one of the best teams, not just in terms of offensive power, but also a greatly equipped defensive side as well.
Captain of Columbus Blue Jackets, Rick Nash, was always the lone shooter on the team and carried the club to the few victories it could get, but over the offseason, getting one of Philadelphia Flyers’ top shooters, Jeff Carter, Columbus was expected to be one of the best franchises in the upcoming season, as Carter would be able to shine out more in a growth-stunted team.
However, so far, it has turned out to be the exact opposite, as the team still sits in the bottom position of not only the Western Conference but in the entire major league with 20 points and a disappointing, 8-17-4 record in a total of 29 matchups played so far.
Earlier this season, before Davis Payne was replaced by Ken Hitchcock, the new St. Louis Blues' head coach, it was rumoured that he would be replacing Arniel instead, but to his good luck, the Blue Jackets were unable to work out a deal in his interest, leading him to the Eastern Conference.
With each day and game that passes by, it will be a test for Scott Arniel as the Blue Jackets supposedly have their eyes open for the position to replace its current coach who joined the club on June of 2010, but has not been able to yield any noticeable and praise worthy results.
The sad part was, while all other teams were having a blasting start to the 2011-2012 NHL regular season, the Columbus Blue Jackets won their first game after facing eight defeats in a row and finally bounced back against the Detroit Red Wings, only to lose another two straight.
Unfortunately, Columbus has not been able to win any back-to-back contests in the season up until now which makes its future in the season very narrow, with regard to securing any sort of position in the upcoming playoffs next year, something which a majority, if not all, the teams are eyeing.
If Scott Arniel has any plans of keeping his position as the head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets and staying in the major league, he must, and by that meaning as soon as possible, start getting some wins because there are a number of high level coaches that are looking around for possible jobs which could have him gone at any moment.
