Top Five players in the 2010/11 Season – Portuguese Primeira Liga special
Last Season was full of gifted players who had fans on the edge of their seats. With their silky skills and spectacular goals, only the best of the best made it to this list, in which Bettor.com analyzes the Top Five Players of the 2010/2011 Campaign.
5. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Baba-Diawara-c7137 (Maritimo)
One of the least known players in this list, Diawara has been a sensation for Maritimo with 11 impressive goals in the season ended.
He started his career with ASC Jeanne d'Arc of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001 and earned a move to Europe with some glittering performances. Maritimo B team took a gamble on his signature but he replicated his form and made an impressive debut in the 2007/08 season.
He has become a regular feature for the Lions since then, but his most memorable campaign was definitely the last one, where his goalscoring feats raised his profile in Europe and several clubs are interested in signing the 23-year-old. A move, however,
is yet to materialize.
4. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oscar-c28720 Cardozo (Benfica)
Touted as one of Europe’s hottest properties, the only reason Cardozo is not on the top of the list is because his outings in the 2010/11 campaign were sporadic due to a string of recurring injuries.
Although he failed to reach the dizzying heights of 38 goals in a single season he set for himself the previous season, the Paraguayan International has netted a decent 12 goals. Considering his injury woes and the time spent on the treatment table, it’s
a decent return to say the least.
3. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/João-Tomás-c18669 (Rio Ave)
The Veteran Striker has been a revelation for his club side Rio Ave, finding the back of the net an astonishing 16 times, a feat even more remarkable given his age – 36!
The former Portuguese International had previously played for the Big River in the 2009/10 season before he left to try his luck in the money making Leagues of the Middle East.
Upon his re-signing in 2010, not much was expected of the former Selecao forward, but he was in red hot form the entire season and his 16 goals last season suggest that he still has the goal poaching ability despite his advanced years.
2. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Radamel-Falcao-c30276 (Porto)
The Star Man at Estadio do Dragao has been a nightmare for goalkeepers this season, both in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and the UEFA Europa League. The latter is where he broke the all time scoring record in season by bagging a staggering 17 goals.
Falcao started his career with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 ensued.
His time with the Portistas has been prolific; he scored a jaw dropping 34 goals in his debut campaign and netted an even more remarkable 38 goals in his second, which was a trophy-laden campaign for the Dragons.
The Only reason he misses out on the top of the list is because he was not as prolific in the league in terms of goal-to-game ratios as he was in the Europa League.
1. Hulk (Porto)
The undoubted star of the Primeira Liga this season has been the well built Brazilian known as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hulk-c16436.
The Porto Brute combined his body strength with silky samba http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Skills-c40539 to great effect and it saw him top the scoring charts this season with a magnificent haul of 23 goals in the campaign.
The Selecao International started his career with Sao http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kawasaki-Frontale-c39683 before making the move permanent.
He was then loaned again, this time to Consadole Sapporo and Tokyo Verdy, where his predatory instincts took control and he scored 62 times in 80 appearances before moving to Porto.
His consistent and hardworking performances have paid off as he was on the top of the scoring charts in the 2010/11 season, resulting in the attention of several potential suitors but his €100 million buyout clause will all but scupper any possible bids.
