Top Guns shown the door at the halfway mark of the PGA Championship in Atlanta: Highlights
The second round of the 93rd PGA Championship in progress at the Atlanta Athletic Club saw many of the young guns of the sport switching gears to grab the lead through the halfway mark. Jason Dufner and PGA Tour Rookie Keegan Bradley are now in
contention for the top slot after the duo posted a five-under, 135 on the aggregate to clear the experienced field at the event.
Dufner posted a second round score of five-under, 65 against his even-par round on the first day, while Bradley posted an unblemished second round of six-under, 64 to push for the summit of the concluding major event of the season.
Dufner, who tied for fifth at the Whistling Straits, has never led a round in any major event and will be hoping to stay in the lead in the next two rounds.
“Yeah, definitely a good way to finish. I think I played the last seven maybe 4‑under, so that was definitely a strong finish to the day and good start for the weekend,” said Dufner, who pulled in five birdies, a glorious eagle at fifth and dropped just
two shots to push for the lead of the event.
Bradley, winner of the HP Byron Nelson for the season, has decided to go all out for his first major title of his career. Grandson of famous LPGA star Pat Bradley, the young golfer carded a bogey-free round on Friday to challenge Dufner at the top.
“It’s my rookie year.  I'm just kind of getting started.  I've got to tell you, I do feel very comfortable out there. It's always so much fun to be out here,” said a jubilant Bradley. “It's cool to look around and see all these guys that I've looked up to
my whole life and able to be peers with them and compete at the highest level with them.”
Some of the grizzled veterans of the sport including D.A Points, Jim Furyk, Scott Verplank and John Senden are all tied for the third spot, trailing the leaders by one shot. The threatening experienced brigade just a shot away from the lead, have made many
call off their bets for the young golfers probably foreseeing another major going into the hands of tour veterans on the likes of Darren Clarke’s victory at the Open Championship.
Furyk shot a 65 on the second day against his 71 on the opening round, and his disposition amply suggests that the “Golf Boys” star finally means business after a long break.
Tiger Woods failed to make the cut for the fourth time in any major event in his career and will be heading into another long break in the season, possibly returning at the JB Were Classic on PGA. He shot a three-over, 73 on the second day against his seven-over,
77 in the first round and missed the cut for the first time after the open Championship in 2009.
Martin Kaymer, the defending champion, also failed to make the cut, leaving the competition wide open for the rest of the field.
