  3. SUV's are top heavy, plain and simple. You want to look for somthing that has a wider wheel stance to make it more stable (the explorer has a narrow wheel base for an SUV) and somthing with electronic stability control. I'm a little partial due to what I was raised driveing, and my job, But the GMC Yukon, and Chevy tahoe come equipped with a nice wide wheel base well not making it feel like your driveing a tank, as well as traction control, towing sway control and electronic stability control. Someone already stated that range rover has the same technoligy, and they do, have for years, and frankly if you can afford a Range Rover buy it, they are beautiful and bullit proof, But if the 80K or better is out of your price range then there are other options out there, including the Yukon/Tahoe. If its not an off road vehicle then look at a Cross-Over Like the GMC Acadia in an all wheel drive which offers the same stability and traction control systems but will also give you better fuel economy and just as much practicality unless towing. More than anything, just test drive whatever you think you may like and feel comfortable in and buy based on your personal feelings and Comfort of the vehicle when everything is said and done, ride wise, and price wise. Good luck.

  4. Any reduction in the top-heaviness of an SUV is almost certainly going to come at the expense of ground clearance. If ground clearance is reduced, off-road capability is also compromised.

High-end SUVs like Land Rover and Toyota's Land Cruiser have enough electronic driving aids to reduce the possibility of toppling over. Only your wallet will be damaged.

Crossover utes like the GMC Acadia might handle the problem posed by a 3X3 rock by simply refusing to go over it

In either case, you'd be safe.
