The Inter Continental Championship is considered to be one of the most prestigious belts in the world of professional wrestling. Most wrestlers who won the belt went on to become the WWE Champions later in their careers. The World Wresting Entertainment has compiled a rankings list which includes the best Inter Continental Champions of all time. Randy Savage sits on the first position, Chris Jericho is at second place, the Ultimate Warrior on third, Mr. Perfect on fourth, Pat Patterson on fifth, Honky Tonk Man on sixth, Razor Ramon on seventh, Bret “The Hit Man” Hart on eighth, Pedro Morales on the ninth place, Randy Orton on tenth, Rick Rude on eleven, Triple H on twelve, Shawn Michaels on thirteen, Edge on fourteen and Rob Van Dam is on the fifteenth position in WWE rankings for the best Inter Continental Champion in the history of professional wrestling.
Then it is the wrestler who made wrestling what it is today. It is the Texas Rattle Snake “Stone Cold” Steve Austin who is on the sixteenth position in the best Inter Continental wrestler rankings of all time. Stone Cold Steve Austin won the Inter Continental gold on two occasions in his career. One of the greatest moments in the history of professional wrestling came when Stone Cold Steve Austin fought Owen Hart for the Inter Continental title. Owen Hart broke the neck of Stone Cold Steve Austin during the match and nearly ended his career. But somehow, Stone Cold Steve Austin managed to complete the match with a broken neck and defeated Owen Hart to win the Inter Continental Championship.
Jeff Jarrett, who is popularly known as “Double J” in the wrestling world is ranked as the 17th best Inter Continental Champion of all time. Jeff Jarrett holds the record for winning the second highest number of Inter Continental Championships on no less than 6 occasions during his career. It was the Royal Rumble in 1995 when Jeff Jarrett defeated Razor Ramon to gain his first Inter Continental title belt. Jeff Jarrett defeated the likes of Edge and “The God Father” to win his subsequent Inter Continental titles later in his career.
Tito Santana, who is considered as one of the most loved wrestlers of the 1980’s, has received the eighteenth position in the best Inter Continental Championship rankings. Tito Santana was often beaten to the limit during his matches but his remarkable ability to never say quit turned him into a crowd favourite. Tito Santana gained the title by battling the likes of Cowboy Bob Orton and Greg Valentine.
Then came the man who revolutionized the concept of sports entertainment and took professional wrestling to newer heights of popularity, fame and success. The Rock, who is hailed as the people’s champion is ranked as the 19th best Inter Continental Champion who was both loved and hated during his professional wrestling career. Rock’s second Inter Continental title win lasted for an impressive 265 days. His Inter Continental Championships helped him to become one of the biggest wrestling superstars in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. The Rock went on to capture many important championships during his career and became an international celebrity. His popularity reached its peak when he was invited to address the Republican National Convention.
Greg Valentine is on the 20th position in the list of the best Inter Continental Champions in the history of professional wrestling. Greg Valentine was known as the “Hammer” for his rough attitude and elite fighting skills, in and outside the ring. His greatest rivalry was against Tito Santana during the 1980’s. Greg Valentine fought against Tito Santana in many brutal matches for the prestigious Inter Continental title. Greg Valentine was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame due to his services in professional wrestling.
Many young wrestlers come and go who end their careers in pursuit of the prestigious championship but the above mentioned wrestlers are truly the top Intercontinental wrestlers of all time.
