Top LPGA stars to tee up at LPGA Lotte Championship this week
After the successful conclusion of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, LPGA stars are now eyeing another big event — LPGA Lotte Championship, which is slated to start from April 18-21, at Ko Olina Golf Club in Oahu.
The LPGA Lotte Championship, which is offering a hefty $1.7 million purse, will be staging a tough battle among competent players.
The top-ranked Yani Tseng, who has been stunning in the current season, is also gearing up to add another victory to her profile.
Analysts said that Tseng can pose a threat to other players in the field because she has been maintaining her momentum since the start of the 2012 season.
She played amazingly well in the first major tournament of the season — the Kraft Nabisco Championship, she finished third.
Although she was not able to record the major triumph, her superb performance gave her enough confidence. She was looking to grab her third straight triumph at the Mission Hills Country Club.
Despite the fact that the weather conditions posed serious troubles to the players, the Taiwanese appeared unfazed, as she made sensible strokes on most of the holes.
The field at the Lotte Championship will also feature Paula Creamer. Analysts said that the American prodigy is firm to show her skills at Hawaii, but may feel under pressure due to high expectations from her.
According to the Lotte Championship officials, the tournament’s roster will feature 144 players that include professionals and rookies.
In addition to LPGA giants, the field will also feature rookies. For instance, Stephanie Kono, who resides in Hawaii, will be putting her skills to test at the Ko Olina Golf Club this week.
Lotte is a prominent industrial group stationed in Korea and Japan. The group got in touch with the LPGA Tour and introduced the LPGA Lotte Championship.
LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan said that he is glad to see women’s golf coming back to Hawaii once again.
“As Lotte sets its sights on global expansion, we couldn’t be more proud to be their business partner in this venture, and we look forward to spreading their brand and other businesses together on a global stage,” Whan said.
