Top Malaysian shuttlers make strong bids to win local crown – Badminton news
The prime men’s singles shuttlers of Malaysia made strong bids to win local crown in the absence of Lee Chong Wei in the Selangor Open.
The World Number 1 Chong Wei is competing only in mix doubles category and the singles shuttlers are sweating hard to pocket full benefits of the opportunity.
Every top ranked shuttler of Malaysia is contesting in the event with some personal goals as few of them are striving to prove their worth after the Thomas Cup snub while the others trying to justify their position in the national squad.
Yesterday, all the renowned shuttlers registered their presence by winning their matches.
The top seeded Daren Liew had no trouble in a second round tussle as he buried his opponent shuttler Samuel Nesan with a straight-set victory by scoring 21-9 and 21-13 on the board. Daren Liew is now going to meet reserved national player Nur Azriyn Ayup
in third round.
The world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli, who is been under observation of BAM for Thomas Cup finals squad, registered his mark by nailing his rival Ng Sun Ly with significant margin of 21-11 and 21-17.
Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif had to face a strong opposition from his opponent Kuan Beng Hong who bounced back in second set after first set loss.
The World Number 50 Arif had to put his best to conclude the match with final score sheet showing 21-18, 15-21, and 21-19 score in the end. He cleared his way to third round and will take on Kuan Kam Chung.
The young Chong Wei Feng, who also was overlooked in Thomas Cup qualifiers, made his cut to third round by overshadowing Loke Kok Pong with a straight-set win. Wei Feng hammered his opponent with a speedy 21-15 and 21-11 score on the board.
Another rapid fire round was played between the young Malaysian shuttler Misbun Ramdan Misbun and low-ranked Ramesh Nathan. Misbun ended it quickly with an authoritative margin of 21-12 and 21-12.
An epic clash of the titans is being observed in Selangor Open as almost every leading badminton star is stretching arms in the court to embrace the glory and prove his worth in the absence of Lee Chong Wei in the singles category.
Meanwhile, Lee Chong Wei has paired up with Vivian Hoo in mix doubles category and they outclassed their opponent duo Hafiz Hashim-Ho Bee Ling yesterday.
