Top NBA rookies showcase their talent in Jimmer Fredette exhibition game: NBA News
Considering the NBA lockout is still at a standstill with no scope of an early resolution over the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, this years’ draft picks have yet to taste the fascination of the NBA life.
Under normal circumstances, each NBA rookie would have been working out with their respective teams to prepare for the next season. However, the scenario is totally different this time around and all the rookies can do for now
is to play among themselves.
On Thursday night, the NBA rookies played one such game.
The former Brigham Young University superstar Jimmer Fredette, who was drafted by Milwaukee Bucks with the 10th overall pick in this year’s draft, organized the exhibition game featuring more than a dozen of the NBA’s
top recruits from 2011.
"This was a good measuring stick for us. Now it is kind of a waiting game. You just work as hard as you can and stay in shape. That's pretty much all you can do. It will be a long offseason. You have to try to get in game shape
because when it does start, we're going to go right into it." Jimmer said about the activity.
In the game, the team captained by the former San Diego State standout Kawhi Leonard and coached by Steve Fisher of Aztecs toppled Team Fredette 140-126. The game was witnessed by approximately 11,124 fans and they got value for
their money in a high scoring thriller.
Charlotte Bobcats rookie point guard Kemba Walker, who scored 23 points on the night, said on the occasion."I always knew Jimmer's fans were crazy, but this is special. I had a great time out here and could tell how much this city
loves him. Credit to Jimmer."
Kawhi Leonard and Milwaukee Bucks draft pick Tobias Harris spearheaded the winning team with 24 points apiece. The star of the night was however Nolan Smith, who was selected by the Portland Trailblazers with the 21st
overall pick. Smith led Fredette’s team with a game-high 30 points and handed out 13 assists while Jimmer Fredette also sparked the night with 27 points and 10 assists.
