Top NHL Defenseman Shea Weber to focus on performing, contract negotiations with Predators later
Joining teammate Ryan Suter in his stand to perform and discuss contract negotiation later on when the hockey season comes to a close, top National Hockey League (NHL) and Nashville Predators defenseman, Shea Weber, disclosed his intentions on staying with
the team but focusing on the season first.
Contract negotiations were not easy for Shea Weber last time when the team and he were headed into an arbitrary hearing, making him the highest paid defender in the league by far after a $7.5 million, one-year contract, which will be making him a restricted
free agent later on this summer, they do not seem to get easier any time soon.
"I don't really like to think about it, especially during the season," Weber told NHL.com recently. "It's stressful enough during the summer with the negotiation and arbitration. Right now, I'm not focused on that. It's a place I love to play. If we can
keep guys around and keep getting better, then it's a place I want to stay."
It was during the 2012 NHL All-Star Game that both players let their views be known openly and also conveyed the same to their team.
Keeping both Weber and Suter on the team is crucial for Nashville as they attempt to go deeper not only in the season this time but also in the playoffs as well as both players have helped the team reach the postseason for the past five of six seasons.
When asked about the two superstars, Nashville Predators’ general manager, David Poile, affirmed that having both on the franchise for the upcoming seasons is without a doubt, a top priority for the management at the moment, along with adding that it is
under discussion at the moment as well.
"I envision our franchise for years to come having Ryan Suter and Shea Weber, but I have to get them signed for that vision to become a reality," Poile told NHL.com. "Everything else, including the trade deadline, is secondary to that."
Currently, Shea Weber has 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists) in 46 games he has played in this 2011-2012 NHL regular season so far.
