Top Players going in to test the Free Agency -NHL offseason Special
There is less than five days till the free agency market opens up and this year, there are definitely a lot of things to look forward to as a number of hot players are up for grabs and any team could just get a whole lot better.
For now, the players that will be discussed are heading into the free agency and certainly will get a lot of offers if they do so, but before the Sunday, July 1st deadline, anything could happen.
Jaromir Jagr (Philadelphia Flyers)
Without a doubt one of the best players to have ever graced the National Hockey League (NHL), Jaromir Jagr is one of the biggest names who is set to enter and test his value once again.
Making a comeback after three years, Jagr was a hot commodity and Philadelphia Flyers gave over $3 million to him for the one year he had on his contract but the team has resisted doing it again for some unapparent reason.
After a 54 point (19 goals, 35 assists) season, Jagr is capable of performing and still has some years left in him, but do not expect a long-term deal for this veteran.
Zach Parise (New Jersey Devils)
Captain of the New Jersey Devils, Zach Parise, has not hinted at wanting to test the free agency but seeing the financial situation of the team that he lead to the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals, he might not have a choice.
Parise is making $7 million and above every season and definitely has the potential to lead any club, but will New Jersey take that risk of losing him for the next season? Nothing can be said for sure just yet but he might want to test his worth in the market
as well.
Ryan Suter (Nashville Predators)
Nashville Predators and Ryan Suter have not gotten along and after seven straight seasons with the team, it seems like the veteran defenseman will be testing the free agency after all.
One of the reasons people believe Suter is leaving is to take on a position of more responsibility and being a defenseman that plays alongside Shea Weber, he just will not be able to achieve that anytime soon.
Detroit Red Wings have expressed their interest in the player a number of times in order to fill the gap left by Nicklas Lidstrom’s retirement and it seems like Suter just might be the man for the job.
Shane Doan (Phoenix Coyotes)
It might not seem possible but the Phoenix Coyotes still have not re-signed their veteran captain, Shane Doan, who has been a part of the franchise ever since being drafted seventh overall back in 1995, but he is still set to become a free agent.
Doan expressed his dissatisfaction over the ownership issue that Coyotes are facing and as troubling as he sounded, testing the free agency and taking on another role could be the next step for his career.
The captain wants a Stanley Cup and nearly got one this season as he led Phoenix to the Western Conference Finals but until and unless there is a stable ownership to defend the players rights, Doan might not be willing to comeback.
Dustin Penner (Los Angeles Kings)
After a great comeback performance in the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs (3 goals, 8 assists in 20 games), Dustin Penner is also set to become a free agent this upcoming Sunday.
Seeing how his regular season was slow to star, Penner proved to be a pressure playing left winger and has two Stanley Cup championships under his belt. It is hard to see why Los Angeles Kings have not re-signed him yet, but change is always a good thing
and Penner might want that this year.
