Top Rank President: Koncz told us to reschedule Pacquiao – Boxing News
President of Top Rank Todd duBoef revealed that Manny Pacquiao’s adviser and friend Michael Koncz requested to reschedule the Filipino’s fight date. According to Todd, Pacquiao’s November 10 date was rescheduled to December this year.
“Koncz told us he wanted to see if we could move the date a couple of weeks later because of the political situation with Manny in the Philippines,” asserted Todd duBoef.
“For his congressional run he has to be physically present when he files for his candidacy in October. So the request we got was see what we could do about pushing back the fight, and we are looking at the options to satisfy Manny,” he added.
Previously, Pacquiao was scheduled to fight on November 10 following his split decision loss to Timothy Bradley on June 9. However, now, the Pac-man will be fighting in December and the venue for the fight is not yet decided.
“Right now, they're scheduling it for the MGM Grand, but I've had discussions on it with Bob, and it depends on what opponent we pick,” said Koncz, Pacquiao’s adviser and friend.
Koncz also revealed that Pacquiao’s opponent has not been decided yet. There were rumours of the Filipino icon facing Miguel Cotto on December 1 at Madison Square Garden but Koncz shrugged them off, saying Pacquiao has not yet decided on whom to face.
“We still need to start promoting it, and we should make a final determination in the next week or so,” he added.
Pacquiao’s rescheduling could also be an indication towards a possible bout against Floyd Mayweather jr, the current WBC welterweight titlist. Mayweather was released from Jail earlier this month. According to his camp, the unbeaten American fighter needs
enough time to get back to his game.
Bob Arum of Top Rank, promoter for Pacquiao, has already squashed hopes of Pacquiao facing Mayweather this year. In his previous interviews, Arum has asserted that a bout between the two is likely in 2013.
For now, fans are curious to know who will be Pacquiao’s next opponent. The list of possible opponents includes Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley.
