Top Remaining Issues of the Offseason –NHL Special Part 1
The 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) offseason and developed out quite nicely and continues to do so as a number of unresolved issues now stand completed and solved with players like Rick Nash, Shea Weber, Zach Parise and Ryan Suter on their respective
clubs and ready for the upcoming regular season.
Rick Nash went on to become a New York Ranger, Shea Weber stayed on board with Nashville Predators after they matched Philadelphia Flyers offer and Zach Parise and Ryan Suter joined the Minnesota Wild club.
In terms of coaching, the biggest developments were Adam Oates taking over the vacant position in Washington with the Capitals while Ralph Krueger replacing ex-Edmonton Oilers head coach, Tom Renney.
There are still a number of issues that remain unsolved and hopefully, teams are turning their attention towards them now.
Shane Doan and Phoenix Coyotes
Probably the most eligible free agent at the moment has to be veteran forward, Shane Doan. With a number of teams on his trail, the right winger is still to decide whether to continue playing with Phoenix Coyotes despite their seemingly never ending ownership
issues or finally join a new team.
A number of teams are ready to make an offer to Doan with New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers reportedly leading the race, but Doan is still willing to wait and see whether Greg Jamison’s bid to but the Coyotes team will pull through or not.
There is no doubt in the fact that Shane Doan has been in contact with other clubs, but no confirmation from his side has been out as of yet and most analysts are terming next season to be with Phoenix for him.
If the Phoenix Coyotes are not able to pull through and have a solid ownership group running their affairs, Shane Doan could be out sooner than later, leaving a major gaping hole in the Coyotes squad that would be impossible to fill up at this moment in
time.
Roberto Luongo (Vancouver Canucks)
Surprisingly and expected at the same time, Roberto Luongo finally announced his departure from Vancouver Canucks to join another team for next season. His flight has taken off but it is still in their air without any apparent destination landing point.
The veteran goalie has expressed his desire to join Florida Panthers or Chicago Blackhawks but unfortunately, both have expressed there being no need to have him on the club. One of the biggest reasons being his humongous contract which most teams are frightened
of upon hearing.
We may never know, but Luongo might just have to continue playing with Vancouver until someone is ready to bring him on board.
To be continued in Part 2...
