Top Things on Every Fans mind heading into the Free Agency -NHL offseason Special
It is definitely that time in a year again when fans all around the world try and focus on what might happen to some of their favourite players and teams as the free agency is set to kick off on Sunday, July 1st, after all pending contracts will
expire and allow franchise to go after the hottest commodities available in the market.
There are always some players who surprisingly are not re-signed or either do not want to stay on the same team and create headlines each and every day until a deal is not reached.
Here are some of the top things on every fans mind entering the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) free agency:
Zach Parise and New Jersey Devils Fiasco
Captain of the New Jersey Devils, Zach Parise, just might be up for grabs this Sunday, but will his team re-sign one of the best forwards in the league before then, nothing can be said for sure in that regard.
The 27-year-old left winger is an amazing player but also demands a huge $7 million salary each and every year. Teams will certainly try and go all out to grab him during the free agency, if New Jersey fails to secure a deal before then.
Parise has stated a number of times that he wants to return and play for the Devils, seeing how he led them to the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals, but seeing how New Jersey is in a financial crisis, the young captain just might have to look elsewhere to keep the
dough rolling in.
Will Nashville Predators keep Shea Weber?
Last year was humiliating for Nashville Predators in regards to signing Shea Weber. The young defenseman went into salary arbitration after Predators refused to re-sign him according to his demands and going into the hearing landed him a much bigger deal
than expected before.
Weber was termed to be the highest earning and best defenseman in the league and losing out on how they lost Ryan Suter this time, Nashville’s performance will certainly go down the drain.
Weber is an important aspect of the Predators squad and not signing him up for a long-term contract will ensure some other team does.
Rick Nash and the inevitable Trade
Rick Nash might not become a free agent but the player will not stay in Columbus with the Blue Jackets no matter what happens. Obviously Blue Jackets general manager, Scott Howson, is not willing to give up the player, but Nash has made it clear a number
of times that he wants to move and that is final.
Now, the only thing left to do is actually trade him but his huge contract has scared off a number of teams, making the situation a whole lot interesting. Some even say he might have to stick with Columbus.
Where is Roberto Luongo’s future headed?
Roberto Luongo and the Vancouver Canucks  are in a bitter situation as the veteran goalie knows the team is fed up with him but both sides have still not opened up fully in public on where the 2011 Stanley Cup Finalist goalie could be headed next season.
Reports emerged about Luongo wanting to head back to Florida with the Panthers but like Nash, Luongo has a lot of luggage in terms of his contract, which would hinder the Miami based team in their process of building the franchise.
