Top Transfers Of The Season So Far
Transfer season is here and every club out there is looking to improve their squad for the upcoming 2010-2011 football season which starts in August. There has been some amazing transfer business already concluded. Lets take a look at some transfers which have stood out.
It has been stated numerous times that Thierry Henry is past his best and while it may be true, he is still one of the best finishers in world football and his transfer to the MLS side New York Red Bulls from the Spanish Champions Barcelona is one of the best transfers of the season, especially since the New York team have managed to acquire the Frenchman without paying a transfer fee to Barcelona.
Although New York aren’t the best team in the United States, whereas Barcelona are arguably the best team in the world, the transfer could prove to be a very good one for both the player and the club as the MLS looks to cash in on the football fever that has gripped the country.
Joe Cole’s move on a free transfer from Chelsea to Liverpool has made the headlines all over England and it has to be said that Liverpool have managed a major coup because they have essentially received Joe Cole and 5 Million pounds in exchange for Yossi Benayoun.
Capable of playing on the wing as well as behind the striker, Cole will provide some much needed creativity to Liverpool who have an unhealthy dependence on Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres. The reason this transfer is one of the best this season is because it hasn’t cost Liverpool anything and they have managed to improve their squad substantially because of it.
David Silva has been impressive for Valencia throughout his time, but due to financial difficulties faced by the Spanish club it was only a matter of time before he was snapped up by a club capable of financing a move. Although the money involved is officially undisclosed, it is believed to be around the 24 Million Pounds and every penny of that money is well spent.
David Silva is a world class player and the move makes the list for the best transfers, mostly due to his age. At just 24, the Spanish International has his best football ahead of him and the Premier League will benefit from his addition to the Manchester club, as he is a joy to watch with the ball at his feet.
The other David at Valencia, David Villa, has also changed clubs, moving to the Spanish Champions Barcelona for 34.2 Million Pounds. The move sees one of the most prolific goal scorers in Spain, and indeed Europe, move to a team which has more attacking flair than any other side in the world.
Villa is expected to fit into the Barcelona side very well since he played with six of Barcelona's players at the International level with Spain, and already knows the Spanish League, having played there for his entire career.
These two aspects, along with his keen eye for the goal, make this transfer one of the best this season and will make Barcelona a scary prospect for their opponents next season.
