Top UK Fixed Rate Bond?

I know this is like asking for secret of being a billionaire but I was wondering if anyone knows what the top paying fixed rate bond accounts are? I am prepared not to access the money for at least 1 year possibly 2 and do not want it to go to an offshore fund.

I found one at Nationwide but that required you to open a current account with them...I'm trying to avoid this but for no particular reason.

Who have you got your money in?

  1. That's nothing like asking the secret of being a billionaire, that's a simple, fair enough question

Check out the money section of the weekend FT they have a list of best isa's, best 1yr, 3yr 5yr term bonds

I check it every week, and I think Birmingham midshares, part of HBOS is top dog right now

  2. The choice of bond accounts is wide and constantly changing. For example Anglo Irish Yr Fixed Rate Bond at 7.05% gross--interest paid at maturity is a good offering. This compares to a gross of around 6.3% for instant access accounts with a number of providers. To go to two years and beyond does not offer much better value for locking over a longer period. Also great caution is need with special deals appearing e.g Nigeria and other "unusual" banks.
