Top candidates for Newcastle United manager job
Newcastle United became the first Premier League club this season to show the door to their manager although, this decision is seen in some circles as harsh. Newcastle are currently placed in the 11th spot in the Premier League and this can be
seen as promising considering that this is only their first season back in the top flight after they were relegated to the Championship last season. But, for Mike Ashley, the position is not good enough and the hunt is now on for the next manager of the Newcastle
United Football Club.
Here is a list of some candidates who would fit the bill perfectly for the NUFC:
Martin O'Neill:
The former manger of Aston Villa Football Club has been out of job since walking out on Villa in August earlier this year and will be the perfect match for a club like Newcastle who are looking to stay in the Premier League. With a limited budget and now
finances immediately available to the manager, O’Neil may be the best man for a club that is looking to move forward but also has a tight financial leash.
But, this deal has a flip side too. Martin O’Neil just not too long ago walked out on a club like Aston Villa, who he had nurtured with utmost love and affection but he could not take dictation from the owners on transfer policies and demanded full control
of the club’s transfer market dealings. He could not be given all such things and so he decided to walk out.
Newcastle are a similar kind of club where the owner Mike Ashley keeps a tight leash and also likes to be involved in the club’s dealings in the transfer market but when Martin could not tolerate influences at a bigger club like Villa, what are the guarantees
that he will tolerate the same at Newcastle?
Alan Curbishley:
Another man who could be well suited to the vacant post of manager at NUFC is the former Charlton Athletic and West Ham manager Alan Curbishley, who also happens to be out of job at the moment. It has been almost 2 years that the man has been sitting idle
and the opportunity at Newcastle may be as big as it gets for the former West Ham man. Curbishley has been offered a few jobs in the Championship but he has denied all of them saying that he was waiting for a big club to come and get him and Newcastle may
just be the big club that he was referring to.
The flip side to this deal will be the same as with Marin O’Neil, Curbishley did not take any dictation from the owners about his transfer dealings and only walked out on the club because of external interferences and same could be the problem for him at
Newcastle if he decides to take on the job.
Sven Goran Eriksson:
Sven is currently serving as the manager of Leicester City Football Club and there isn't a job ever in top flight English football where the Swede is not linked with. Same goes for the Toon job and it is expected that the owner Mike Ashley will offer the
Leicester Foxes the compensation cheque needed to get the manager released and take charge of the Magpies.
But the problem with Sven may be that he is way too glamorous of a manager for a club like Newcastle and with the gung ho approach of their owners, he may not find himself in the best position for the manager of Newcastle Football Club.
