Top comments Khan received for his loss to Danny Garcia – Boxing Special
Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan received manifold comments for his devastating knockout loss to Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. Some folks made sure Khan was bucked up, while some fellow fights made
it a mark to degrade the Briton.
Khan, who assured fans he will knock out Garcia in the third round, suffered a knockout himself. A huge left hook by Danny Garcia to the neck of Amir Khan, tumbled the British-Pakistani boxer down on the mat. It was an awful sight for Khan’s fans, and a
moment to rejoice for Garcia’s fans.
However, after the show, it was interesting to see how others reacted towards Khan’s under par performance.
Here are some of the comments Khan received for his knockout loss:
Carl Froch’s ‘write-off’ comment:
Fellow countrymen Carl Froch tops the list with his comment that remarked Khan as a ‘write-off’. The term ‘write-off’ became so popular that it was the buzz of the town. Even Khan reacted to it saying he is still not done and he is not a ‘write-off’ yet.
“It's a write-off for him. Khan's been knocked out by someone who is not touted for the top level. It's very damaging. I would retire if that happened to me,” said Froch in an interview to BBC Radio 5.
Malignaggi regarding Khan as a ‘fish being hooked by Garcia’:
Paulie Malignaggi, who has lost to Khan previously in his career, was at the ringside, commentating on the fight. He was shocked when Garcia’s hook connected with Khan. Later on, in an interview, Malignaggi came up saying, “Khan should have seen what Danny
was trying to do, but he was so into what he was doing. I guess he wasn't thinking enough, seeing that he was actually being sucked in like a fisherman hooks a fish.”
David Haye’s words of inspiration for Khan:
Unlike Froch and Malignaggi, fellow countrymen David Haye had nothing but motivational words for the British-Pakistani fighter. Haye’s comments took into consideration Froch’s remarks as well.
“He’s been written off in the past when he was knocked out by Breidis Prescott. People said he was finished, that he was chinny and had no heart, but he came back and won world titles. Lennox Lewis was knocked out twice by Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman,
should he have given up then? He will still get the big fights, guaranteed, because he’s Amir Khan and puts bums on seats,” said Haye in an attempt to secure Khan’s position.
Overall, the entire boxing universe was shocked at Khan’s defeat. He went out so badly that most fans thought he was not ready for the fight. Some analysts even came up saying that Khan was burned out during his training, which is the main reason as to why
he lost.
After all the negative and positive remarks, Khan is still determined that he will a strong comeback and win world titles once again. Despite his devastating loss, Khan believes he still has what it takes to become the world champion. Khan’s dreams of defeating
Floyd Mayweather definitely shattered but since he is young, he still has enough years left to prove his mettle.
For now, Khan wants to rest before he can decide his next opponent.
