Top eight female athletes put Istanbul into perspective (Part-I) – Tennis News
In a press conference that featured the entire group of top eight athletes, everyone was asked about their opinion of playing in such an elite tournament like Istanbul and following are the replies of every participant.
Victoria Azarenka
World number one, Victoria Azarenka, enters the tournament as one of the hot favourites. She has build up a very strong momentum in her favour prior to this tournament that will definitely help her grasp some scintillating moments
to her name. While conducting a press conference, Azarenka said, “Every match here is tough. I obviously have great champions in the group. It's tough no matter what. It's challenging, definitely, but I'm looking forward to it.”
Maria Sharapova
Reigning French Open Champion, Maria Sharapova, is also in the hunt to clinch a year-end finale trophy to her name. Talking about the experience of playing at Istanbul, the Russian 25-year-old superstar stated, “When you're coming
to the Championships you pretty much know what you're going to get in terms of the level of the group. With the field we have this year; I think every match no matter what group you're in is going to be pretty tough.”
Serena Williams
Former world number one, Serena Williams, is enjoying an emphatic season and wants to top it up with another blistering show at Istanbul. She has grabbed two Grand Slam titles including the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open
trophy. She has not only clinched the two major titles but also became the second women ever to complete a Career Gold Slam during London Olympics. She overpowered Maria Sharapova to deny her from winning the gold medal. Williams is definitely the favourite
for the event.
Commenting about the chance of rounding of the year with a mind-blowing in Istanbul, Williams stated, “I don't really care who I play, when play, as long as I can play. I'm really happy to be here. I'm on the Red side with Victoria,
it'll be good.”
It is interesting to know that all of the Top-3 athletes have a point to prove to themselves, their rivals as well as critics. It will be interesting to see which one of them succeeds in doing so.
