Top executives of league, Players' Association to meet on Tuesday over Labour Deal -NHL Update
The fact that a new labour deal will most likely not be reached by the September 15 deadline has become quite clear to the followers, but the top executives of the National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association are set to meet again on Tuesday, August
28, 2012, in that regard.
Both sides have shown resistance of being scared from a potential lockout and have stood firm on their stance of not backing down on their demands, which in the end, has been termed by experts to hurt fans as a deadline might result in a permanent hockey-less
year.
It was officially announced by TSN’s Darren Dreger through his Twitter account on the social networking website that,
“Small group meeting in NYC on Tues. Bettman, Daly and the Fehr brothers. Eco issues the focus. NHL likely to present another proposal.”
Obviously, financial issues will be the main topic under focus by both groups, but there is much confusion to the fact to what could be the end result as the demands from both sides are totally different.
With only 20 days left in the deadline, there is not telling what might happen and if NHL commissioner Gary Bettman does not allow the questioning of their demands, fans could be waiting then much longer to get back to watching the hockey action.
Up until now, the previous meetings have not shown much potential of both sides reaching a new labour deal, which is why it is believed to be that they have gone to much smaller groups as representing either side. For now, the players have acted in a more
emotional sort of way, which has put off the league, but with Donald Fehr believed to have promised them strict action by meeting league representatives alone; there might be something at hand for both stakeholders.
Updates should be expected in the upcoming days with the deadline closing in and some signs of a new labour deal should be shown by both sides. If not, fans can only pray then that a lockout does not come into play because all signs are pointing that way
at the moment.
