Top five batters in Major League Baseball: An overview – Part 2
Jose Reyes has had an extraordinary stay at the plate this past week. In 35 at-bats, Reyes has managed 10 hits yielding nine runs. Although his average slipped to .286 for the week, his performances won his team some crucial games and that is what counts.
If Reyes continues to amass runs at this rate, he is in line to register almost 120 runs for the season. His hits, currently at 137, are also expected to cross the 200 mark by a significant margin. The Mets are placed third in the National League East Division,
7.5 games behind Atlanta Braves and 12.5 games behind division and MLB leaders Philadelphia Phillies. They might not have a considerable chance to challenge the Phillies and Braves for the top spot but their consistency hereon will be significant measure to
gauge their performance for the next season.
Texas Rangers enjoyed a stretch of 12 consecutive wins in the midst of the season but have since experienced a slight dip in form. One player however, whose form did not deteriorate, is Michael Young. He has been impressive since the onset of the current
season and is ranked easily as the third-best batter in MLB this season.
In 104 games this season, Young has amassed 138 hits and 53 runs including 9 massive home-runs. His 72 RBIs are among the top ten this season and at an average of .333, he is the third-best in MLB. Rangers are 60-46 for the season and Young has played a
major part in this.
Young’s professional career has been illustrious as well. He has featured in 1612 games and has scored 971 runs and 1986 hits. Young’s career average of .302 is tremendous and restates his command on the plate. The Rangers’ designated hitter is 29 runs away
from 1000 career runs and 14 hits shy of 2000 career hits. If he remains fit and continues with his current style of play, he is just games away from two milestones.
Milwaukee Brewers are leaders in the National League Central Division by just .5 games. Their players, especially batters, are performing above par this season. Ryan Braun has been the standout player for the Brewers. Braun has the second-best batting average
in NL and the fourth-best in the Majors. His slugging percentage is ranked equivalent to his batting average.
Braun has had four exciting years at MLB. He has already accumulated 462 runs in 674 career games and is fast approaching 1000 hits with just 175 more to go. What has really inspired all is his rate of scoring runs. Braun is all set to reach the 100 run
mark for the current season and if he does succeed in accomplishing it, he will be able to complete his 500 career runs.
Ryan has been phenomenal this past week. In 19 at-bats, Braun has managed nine hits and five runs at an average of .474. Three of the five runs have come in home-runs.
Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays is unarguably the finest hitter in MLB this season. Bautista has not hit a home-run since July 10 but still leads the list of most homers with 31 this season. His batting average of .327 places him as the third-best
batter in AL and the fifth best in the Majors. Bautista’s form has dipped over the last seven days since he returned from injury but is expected to soon get back to his hitting ways.
