Top five performances at the 2011 FINA World Championships
The 2011 FINA World Championships saw several intriguing and versatile performances on the podium in Shanghai, China, from July 16-31. The session of the meet conducted top five events in which Ryan Lochte of United States won the Men’s 200m IM crown, whereas,
Federica Pellegrini of Italy snared Women’s 400m freestyle title. Hwan Tae Park won Men’s 400m freestyle crown, while Rebecca Soni secured Women’s 100m breast-stroke title of the meet. Finally, Inge Dekker of Netherlands won the Women’s 50m butterfly title
of the competition.
Firstly, Ryan Lochte hit the wall in 1 minute and 54.00 seconds to win Men’s 200m IM title. After the meet, Lochte said, “I knew it was going to be a battle between Michael and I. I got the better end this time. Any time you break a world record, you've
got to be excited. I trained really hard and it paid off.”
Meanwhile, Michael Phelps of United States snared silver on the podium in a time of 1 minute and 54.16 seconds and Laszlo Cseh of Hungary captured bronze in a time of 1 minute and 57.69 seconds.
Secondly, the Women’s 400m freestyle title was clinched by Italian Federica Pellegrini in a time of 4 minutes and 01.97 seconds. Rebecca Adlington of Great Britain finished second in 4 minutes and 04.01 seconds, while Camille Muffat of France rounded out
the top three in a time of 4 minutes and 04.06 seconds.
The Men’s 400m freestyle crown was taken over by Hwan Tae Park in a time of 3 minutes and 42.04 seconds. Yang Sun of China was placed second on the podium with an impressive time of 3 minutes and 43.24 seconds, while Germany’s Paul Biedermann settled third
with a time of 3 minutes and 44.14 seconds.
In the Women’s 100m breast-stroke final, United States’ Rebecca Soni grabbed the golden crown on the podium with a sterling time of 1 minute and 05.05 seconds. After the race, Soni stated,
“I'm really happy with the time. It is hard but I never try to think about it, as I did not want to put pressure on me. Just go out and race, and enjoy it. I'm pretty confident, and I'll keep working.”
Meanwhile, Leisel Jones of Australia was placed second on the podium by posting a scintillating time of 1 minute and 06.25 seconds and Ji Liping of China settled third in a time of 1 minute and 06.52 seconds.
Last, but not the least, the Women’s 50m butterfly title was snagged by Inge Dekker of Netherlands with an impressive time of 25.71 seconds. In the corresponding meet, Therese Alshammar of Sweden picked the silver crown in a time of 25.76 seconds and Melanie
Henique of France captured the bronze title with a matchless time of 25.86 seconds. Ying Lu of China was placed fourth by posting a time of 25.87 seconds.
