Top five prospective third basemen for 2011 Major League Baseball season
Keeping in view the final stages of the off-season, teams have made their final preparations for the 2011 Major League Baseball season. On the other hand many predictions have been penned down providing the list of prospective players in the season.
Third base is one of those positions in baseball that holds significant value as the player is constantly in the action against the majority of right-hand batters. The list below is the top five prospective third basemen for the 2011 season.
5. Matt Dominguez
Spring training will be a chance for him to prove himself as the best third baseman for the Florida Marlins as he has already been announced to this position in the squad. Although he played as short-stop in high school, the presence of Haley Ramirez has
forced him to third base. This provides him a solid chance to show his qualities at third base.
Dominguez has been named Number one in the Florida Marlins’ top 10 prospects for 2011 season by Baseball America. Last season was not that impressive with his performance but he still he managed to be a part of the top prospects. He had a .252 average with
14 home-runs and 81 RBIs in 2010 at the Double-A level. He will be looking to put in a good performance for the Marlins in the 2011 season.
4. Zack Cox
It will be his first Major League season if he gets chance to appear on the field. The club management seems to have him on the MLB level this year. The Cardinals considered to put Zack Cox at the third base position last year but eventually changed their
decision.
Cox was one of the top hitters that came directly from college. Cardinals gave him a chance at third-base and he proved it to be a wise decision for the team. There are chances that Cox will replace the position of David Freese at third base when the team
moves in to the MLB regular season after Spring Training.
He has a good average of .429 with 9 home-runs and 48 RBIs at the University of Arkansas.
3. Lonnie Chisenhall
Experts believe Lonnie Chisenhall among the best hitters in the Minor League. He is being seen as a quality shot maker with one of the fastest bat speed in the game. Chisenhall made his mark with 600 plate appearances at Double-A, now looking forward to
hit AAA in the next season.
His only rival in Cleveland is Jayson Nix with a .224 average in 2010. According to experts he will be the part of the team soon.
2. Brent Morel
Brent Morel, last year’s 23-year-old September call-up is likely to join the Chicago White Sox as Spring Training starts.
Morel’s reasonably acceptable .231 average with 3 home-runs in 65 ABs last year shows his chances to be a part of the team. Chicago White Sox strong middle order will allow him to settle without any pressure.
His 2010 performance make him the suitable player to talk on. It was his form that let him set .322 with 10 homers and making 64 RBIs.
1. Mike Moustakas
Finally the most probable player to hold the best third baseman prospect slot of 2011 is Mike Moustakas from Kansas City Royals. The 22-year-old left-handed batter has played extra ordinary Minor League seasons. He achieved a .347 average with 21 homers
in just 259 ABs in Texas League and holds the AA position. His performance led him to Pacific Coast League where he hit .293 with 15 home-runs and proved he is the most eligible player in the club to be a part of MLB.
There are strong speculations that he will make it to the Major League early in the season. Some believe that he will be tested in the Royals’ opening day at third base and will be sent back to AAA for half-season.
