Top five reasons why Roger Federer can regain the top spot in ATP rankings - Part one
Prior to the start of the fall year, the Swiss tennis maestro, Roger Federer declared that he could beat anyone when he was at his best. Majority of the experts agreed to the statement, however, the question that came in the minds of many was how often could
the sixteen times Grand Slam champion conjure up his top game when required?
In the five tournaments, the Basel born played in this fall; he triumphed in three of them, advancing into the title battle, before losing to Andy Murray and a semi final showing in the other. The Swiss superstar went 21-2 in the time period and also dominated
his one of the hardest rivals to capture the season finale World Tour Finals in London.
So the question now is that is Federer’s form at the finale of the year a symbol of things to come? Can the right hander get back to the highest level of the game once again? Or was his play at the majors in 2010 a more significant predictor of his fortunes?
Predictions won’t do enough justice to the legendary tennis great; therefore Bettor.com gives few reasons why the Swiss tennis maestro can regain the top level of the ATP rankings.
1. His devilish serve
There is certainly no doubt about the fact that Federer’s serve along with his forehand is the best combination of strokes in the men’s game of tennis. The Swiss tennis maestro, who made his debut on the ATP tour back in 1998, does not necessarily serve
a lot of aces; however he always looks to be cruising through his service games.
The sixteen times Grand Slam winner, who won just a single major event this season at the Australian Open back in January, possesses what Andre Agassi would name a ‘great hold game.’ He is the kind that does not even need thunderous serves at 220 KPH. Roger
Federer has the ability to win cheap points just as simply with a vicious second serve kicker in the ad court, followed by a forehand winner or a put away volley at times.
With the help of his quick and fast serve, the Fed Express has been able to put pressure on the opposition on a variety of times in the past and is still doing the same. Moreover, the pace of his serve also allows Federer to take chances on the return games.
This is exactly how the 29-year-old Federer got past world number one Rafael Nadal in their most recent encounter at the prestigious event in the World Tour Finals last month.
Therefore, if the Maestro can continue to serve the way he did this past fall, no one on the tour can actually stop Roger Federer from going in 2011.
2. Besides Rafa on clay, Federer can surpass all on every surface
You would not be mad betting on the Swiss superstar every clash he plays, except when it is against the clay court specialist, Rafael Nadal on his darling clay surface. It was a fact even during Federer’s absolute prime period as well and is still true today.
The Swiss, however, loses more clashes today than he did seasons back which is not a surprise considering his age.
One thing for sure is that Roger cannot have the similar level of hunger or confidence as he did back when the right hander lost five clashes a year. Those days are over and Roger is no spring chicken.
Many might predict him to lose to Gael Monfils every now and then next year, however when the stakes are high who would you chose to triumph? Federer still has the edge though a grass court Grand Slam title battle versus the red hot Rafael Nadal may be too
tight to call.
