Top five run scorers in 2011 Major League Baseball season - Part-1
As baseball is climbing to new heights and the popularity of shattering hitting and devastating pitching has jumped two folds than previous year, the players are stretching their game to an unparallel level. Every year, some players destroy and some are
destroyed, a few surprise the manager and others bewilder spectators but what is going on this season is something unmatched in Major League history.
This year until July 7, when almost all teams have met each other and now some are looking to take their revenge and some are enjoying their previous win, there are a few players, who can easily be regarded as batting powerhouses and have shown their current
form in terms of their hitting. However, it is always hard to decide how to measure who is the best among such a large number of talented players.
Some players have better batting averages and hits, while others have more home-runs and hits. However, what is important for any team is how many run the player is generating to take his team into a winning situation.
No matter one has more batting averages, more number of bases, more hits or more home runs but what is more important for any team is how many runs its player is generating to take his team into wining situation. Below are five phenomenal players according
to how many runs they have scored.
Curtis Granderson
The New York Yankees’ centre-fielder Curtis Granderson is having a monster season particularly with his power strikes. While the 30-year-old veteran batter has always been a giant for the opposition, he has never made such an outstanding number of grand
slams. After entering for 321 at-bats of 85 games, Granderson has scored 77 runs on 87 hits, which include 25 home-runs, just five short of his career high streak.
Until now, he has also blistered 15 stolen bases and 62 RBIs along with 11 doubles and 7 triples. With the production speed, he can easily take his runs to 150. However, having just four three-run games and 88 strike-outs, second to Arizona Diamondbacks’
Kelly Johnson in 2011, are the drawbacks that could drop him from the top seed.
Some experts are of the view that it will be a tough task for him to save his first position with the Toronto Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista catastrophic chasing speed. However, launching four home-runs in his last seven games, Granderson has removed all rumours
regarding his slowing performance.
Jose Bautista
The Toronto Blue Jays’ bomber, the best power hitter in baseball, Jose Bautista has bewildered his opponents, proving his last season was a chance as his real game is what he was struggling to get to since his debut in MLB. Bautista is on the second number
on the top scorers’ list, with his 69 runs on 96 hits.
However, he is leading the MLB with his 29 home-runs and holding the third position with a .333 batting average this season. He has made 14 doubles, one triple and 61 RBIs over his 288 at-bats as his low batting entrances provide him a chance to prove himself
as the best slugger in the Majors. He has played six three-run games and his best score in a game was four that he made against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 22.
With his performance increasing day-by-day, the 30-year-old is giving clear message to his opponents that he is coming to grab the top spot with his spell bounding hitting. The only thing he needs to improve is his ability to steal bases as he has one of
the lowest number of steals in the League. Having an eye just for homers alone will not make him the best player in this season, according to experts.
