Top five run scorers in 2011 Major League Baseball season - Part-2
With Curtis Granderson leading the list with 77 and Jose Bautista chasing furiously with 69 runs, there are some batters who are striving hard to get past these massive hitters.
Jose Reyes
Having one of the best statistical seasons of his career, the New York Mets’ 8-year veteran short-stop Jose Reyes is sitting at third place of the top run scorers list this season. The 28-year-old lefty is on 65 runs in 350 at-bats of 80 games and still
improving his record striving to touch at least each hit in every game.
He has employed a technique of line drive singles and his practice has been regarded more vital than the Jose Bautista’ home-run strategy. His 65 runs were a result after 124 hits, which include 22 doubles, 15 triples, and 32 RBIs. He has made just three
home-runs, one of the lowest numbers by top scorers. His performance has elevated him in the eyes of the managers, who hired him on a yearly contract and now they definitely will be thinking of extending his contract.
As he is on contract, he will have to maintain his health and statistics throughout the season to be one of the best prospects next year.
Miguel Cabrera
No matter how strong the contenders are and how crushing the pitcher is, the Detroit Tigers’ first-baseman Miguel Cabrera does not care for their strikes or their sinker, he just hammers the ball. With 62 runs on 96 hits composed of 20 doubles and 18 home-runs,
Cabrera ruled out all the speculation that was swirling before the start of this season.
His unassailable impetus has taken him to this position because not only has he struck but also he played sensibly that provide him a chance to score 20 doubles, one of the highest doubles this season. Making 303 at-bats in 89 games and having .561 slugging
averages has put him on the fifth position in overall ranking of the player.
However, his .317 averages put him on track that might lead him to the top of this position. According to experts, his appearance in the Tigers always creates some sense of uneasiness for pitchers as his sudden hitting has can alter the result any time.
Rickie Weeks
The last but not least on the list of top run scorers is the Milwaukee Brewers’ Rickie Weeks. The 28-year old left-hand slugger despite having 62 runs over 98 hits, two more than Miguel Cabrera, is enjoying the fifth seed in the list. His high hit count
is not what put him on fifth instead of fourth, but the real problem is the very low batting averages as compared to Cabrera. He is having just .275 while Cabrera keeps .317 batting averages.
He has 20 doubles, 2 triples, 16 home runs and 37 RBIs but his combination with other runners while on field makes him a true winner for the Milwaukee Brewers. There are some discussion going on to decide between him and his fellow slugger Ryan Braun, who
is currently holding the twelfth position with 57 runs. Experts believe Braun will pass Weeks within the next four or five games but whatever they think, the real contest is in the field, which Weeks is now leading.
Weeks is currently commanding the National League in runs and is on the tenth position with ten home-runs. However, he is the second top seeded baseman in all Major League this season in home-runs.
