Top five swimmers at the 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships, Coimbra
The 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships saw several intriguing performances in Coimbra, Portugal, from August 6-13, 2011.
Belarus took home the Women’s 4x100m medley crown, while Russia won the Men’s 4x100m Medley title. Ryutaro Ibara of Japan secured the gold medal in the Men’s 50m back-stroke meet, whereas, Eleonora Brykanova of Russia snagged the Women’s 50m back-stroke
crown. Finally, Luca Germano captured the Men’s 400m freestyle title of the meet.
Initially, Maryia Rudzko and Natalia Deeva of Belarus hit the wall in 4 minutes and 28.36 seconds to win the Women’s 4x100m medley title. Valeriia Sytnikova and Iryna Tereshchenko of Ukraine finished second on the podium by posting an impressive time of
4 minutes and 34.40 seconds, whereas, Lauren Mcalpin and Jessica Weeden of United States were placed third in a time of 4 minutes and 40.03 seconds. Russia wound up fourth in 4 minutes and 47.35 seconds, while Great Britain settled fifth in 4 minutes and 57.05
seconds.
Ivan Kassin and Ruslan Lebedev of Russia picked the golden crown in the Men’s 4x100m freestyle meet with a sterling time of 3 minutes and 57.00 seconds. United States’ Scot Matchett Marcus Titus finished second in 4 minutes and 00.44 seconds, while Volodymyr
Natalchuk and Andriy Zurgalidze of Ukraine were placed third in a time of 4 minutes and 01.47 seconds. Great Britain wound up fourth in 4 minutes and 12.46 seconds, whereas, China settled fifth in a time of 4 minutes and 25.05 seconds.
Ryutaro Ibara of Japan conquered the Men’s 50m back-stroke crown with a winning time of 27.90 seconds. Meanwhile, Russia’s Ivan Kassin was placed second in 28.02 seconds and Japan’s Yoshikazu Kanaji finished third in 28.11 seconds. Phil Goldberg of Germany
earned fourth spot in 28.47 seconds and Philippe Oueliet of Canada finished fifth in 28.56 seconds.
In the Women’s 50m back-stroke meet, Eleonora Brykanova of Russia secured the gold medal with a sterling time of 31.96 seconds. Belarus’s Maryia Rudzko finished second in 32.02 seconds, while ALEXEEVA Alena of Russia earned third place honours with a time
of 32.34 seconds.
Peggy Villiers De of South African wound up fourth on the podium by posting an impressive time of 32.85 seconds, whereas, Lauren Mcalpin of United States settled fifth in 32.94 seconds. Kateryna Denysova of Ukraine was placed sixth in 33.12 seconds. Teneale
Houghton of Australia finished seventh on the podium by submitting a time of 34.15 seconds and Ayaka Fujikawa of Japan was placed eighth in 34.30 seconds.
Last, but not the least, the Men’s 400m freestyle crown was taken over by Luca Germano with a stunning time of 4 minutes and 03.09 seconds. In the corresponding race, Germano broke Nicky Lange’s previous best record of 4 minutes and 12.64 seconds, posted
in 2007. Poland’s Artur Pioro finished second on the podium by posting a time of 4 minutes and 06.85 seconds. Great Britain’s Arterm Karnysh settled fourth in a time of 4 minutes and 14.59 seconds.
Additionally, Rebecca Meyers took home the Women’s 400m freestyle crown with a winning time of 4 minutes and 31.70 seconds, while Anna Tovsta of Ukraine was placed second in 4 minutes and 36.41 seconds. Hannah Fitton of Great Britain settled third on the
podium by submitting an impressive time of 4 minutes and 39.98 seconds.
