Top five swimmers of the 2011 All African Games in Mozambique
The 2011 All African Games were held at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, from September 5-10. Around 53 nations took part in the event which conducted several impressive swims.
Roxanne Tammadge of South Africa secured the gold medal in the Women’s 1500m freestyle, while Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe earned the golden crown in the Women’s 200m back-stroke. South Africa won the Men’s 400m medley relay. Mandy Loots of South Africa snagged
the Women’s 200m butterfly crown, while Gideon Louw of South Africa captured the Men’s 50m freestyle title. Finally, Chad Le Clos of South Africa grabbed the Men’s 200m IM crown on the podium.
Initially, South Africa’s Roxanne Tammadge hit the wall in 17 minutes and 03.22 seconds to win the Women’s 1500m freestyle title on the podium. In the corresponding swim, Melia Mghezzi of Algeria finished second with a winning mark of 17 minutes and 21.95
seconds, whereas, Seychelles' Shrone Austin settled for bronze in a time of 17 minutes and 27.76 seconds.
Secondly, the Women’s 200m back-stroke title was clinched by Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry with a winning mark of 2 minutes and 12.40 seconds. South Africa's Mandy Loots finished second with an inspiring time of 2 minutes and 16.68 seconds, while Natasha De
Vos rounded out the top three in a time of 2 minutes and 18.18 seconds.
South Africa's group of four swimmers, Charl Crous, Darian Townsend, Chad Le Clos and Gideon Louw topped the Men’s 400m medley relay race by submitting a stunning time of 3 minutes and 46.74 seconds. In the corresponding race, Algeria earned second place
honours with an impressive mark of 3 minutes and 51.09 seconds, whereas, Kenya settled third with a matchless mark of 3 minutes and 53.55 seconds.
Next, the Women’s 200m butterfly crown was taken over by Mandy Loots of South Africa with a sterling mark of 2 minutes and 12.46 seconds. Bianca Meyer of South Africa earned second spot in a time of 2 minutes and 16.66 seconds, while Sarah Hadj of Algeria
was placed third with a mark of 2 minutes and 20.61 seconds.
Moreover, the Women’s Men’s 50m freestyle was clinched by Gideon Louw of South Africa with a triumphant mark of 22.34 seconds. David Dunford of Kenya finished second with a mark of 22.71 seconds, whereas, Jason Dunford settled third in a time of 22.87 seconds.
Last, but not the least, the Men’s 200m Individual Medley crown was taken over by Chad Le Clos of South Africa with an immaculate time of 2 minutes and 00.70 seconds. In the corresponding race, Darian Townsend of South Africa secured the silver medal on
the podium by submitting an impressive time of 2 minutes and 01.76 seconds, while Taki Mrabet of Tunisia earned bronze in a time of 2 minutes and 03.46 seconds.
Furthermore, the Women’s 200m Individual Medley multi-disability title was snared by Natalie Du Toit with an appealing time of 2 minutes and 35.01 seconds, whereas, Kevin Paul won the Men's 200 Individual Medal multi-disability crown with a winning time
of 2 minutes and 19.05 seconds.
All athletes of the meet took a huge round of applause from the crowd and judges, while the victorious were honoured with accolades after the session’s completion.
