Top five swims of 2011 Australian University Games in Gold Coast
The 2011 Australian University Games were held in Gold Coast, Australia, from September 27-30, 2011. The session of the meet conducted top five events. Kyle Richardson won the Men’s 200m freestyle title, while Marieke Guehrer captured Women’s 100m butterfly
crown.
Rebecca Pegg grabbed Women’s 400m freestyle title, whereas, Andrew Cameron clinched Men’s 400m freestyle crown. Last, but not the least, Bond University’s squad took home the Men’s 4x50m freestyle relay title on the podium.
In the beginning, Kyle Richardson of Queensland University of Technology hit the finishing wall in 1 minute and 51.90 seconds to clinch the Men’s 200m freestyle title. Richardson took home the Men’s 4x100m freestyle tile at the 2011 World Championship editions,
in Shanghai.
Moreover, Richardson earned two gold medals in the Men’s 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley categories at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, in New Delhi. In the corresponding races, Kyle Richardson grabbed one silver and one bronze title at the 2010 Pan Pacific
Championships, in Irvine.
In the meantime, Donald Cameron of Macquarie University and Andrew Kennedy of University of New South Wales captured the silver medal with a matching mark of 1 minute and 56.47 seconds. In the corresponding race, Mark O’Donnell of Monash University settled
fourth in 1 minute and 56.87 seconds and Zac Charlton finished fifth in 2 minutes and 01.50 seconds.
On the other hand, Marieke Guehrer of University of Melbourne won the Women’s 100m butterfly title with a victorious mark of 1 minute and 02.35 seconds. Guehrer claimed Women’s 50m butterfly crown at the 2009 World Championships, in Rome. Moreover, she won
Women’s 4x100m freestyle tile for Australia at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, in Delhi. Additionally, she won 4x100m freestyle title at the 2011 Summer Universiade, in Shenzhen.
Meanwhile, Emma Gray of University of Sydney earned silver medal with an impressive mark of 1 minute and 03.68 seconds and McCleery Ashleigh of Griffith University settled for bronze medal in 1 minute and 04.53 seconds. Moreover, Katrina Schieber of University
of Queensland finished fourth in 1 minute and 06.24 seconds and Mel Houghton of University of Sydney settled fifth in 1 minute and 08.64 seconds.
Afterwards, University of Queensland’s athlete, Rebecca Pegg topped Women’s 400m freestyle final heat with a winning mark of 4 minutes and 30.94 seconds. In the corresponding race, Nicolette Lyttle of University of Melbourne grabbed silver medal in 4 minutes
and 36.09 seconds, while Jessica Morrison of University of Melbourne settled for bronze title in a time of 4 minutes and 36.19 seconds.
Additionally, Andrew Cameron captured the Men’s 400m freestyle crown with a triumphant mark of 4 minutes and 08.48 seconds. In the corresponding splash, Donald Cameron of Macquarie University won silver medal with a time of 4 minutes and 09.04 seconds, while
Mark O’Donnell settled for bronze in 4 minutes and 10.86 seconds.
The Men’s 4x50m freestyle relay title was clinched by Bond University’s athletes including Bruce Mcgregor, Chris Dolling, Sam Hourigan and Gene Kubala with a winning mark of 1 minute and 37.98 seconds. In the corresponding race, Queensland University of
Technology settled for silver in 1 minute and 38.39 seconds, whereas, Macquarie University earned bronze in 1 minute and 38.45 seconds.
