Top five swims of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
The 2011 FINA World Junior Championships were held in Lima, Peru, from August 16-21. The session of the meet conducted several impressive swims. Tjasa Oder of Slovenia won the gold medal in the Women’s 1500m freestyle race. Maclin Davis secured the golden
crown in the Women’s 50m butterfly event.
Cameron McEvoy of Australia clinched Men’s 100m freestyle title, whereas, Kanako Watanabe grabbed Women’s 200m breast-stroke crown. Finally, Cortes Gomes won the Women’s 200m Individual Medley title.
In the beginning, the Women’s 1500m freestyle title was clinched by Tjasa Oder with a winning time of 16 minutes and 18.63 seconds. In the corresponding meet, Rachel Zilinskas of United States snared the silver title with a sterling time of 16 minutes and
18.85 seconds. Claudia Dasca of Spain grabbed bronze medal with an impressive mark of 16 minutes and 24.30 seconds.
Michelle Weber of South Africa finished fourth in 16 minutes and 27.14 seconds, whereas, Maria Vidal Vilas of Spain settled fifth with a time of 16 minutes and 27.75 seconds.
Secondly, Maclin Davis of United States won the Women’s 50m butterfly crown with a winning time of 24.26 seconds. Meanwhile, Mihael Vukic of Croatia snared the silver medal with a mark of 24.30 seconds and Martino Lucatello of Italy won the bronze medal
with a time of 24.54 seconds. Yevgen Koptyelov of Ukraine and Erich Peske of United States settled in a tie for fourth place with a matching time of 24.88 seconds.
Moreover, the Men’s 100m freestyle title was taken over by Cameron McEvoy of Australia with a victorious time of 50.16 seconds. Russia’s Dmitry Ermakov and Poland’s Pawel Werner settled in a tie for second place with a matching time of 50.46 seconds. Italy’s
Giacomo Ferri was placed fourth in a time of 50.48 seconds and United States’ Seth Stubblefield wound up fifth with a mark of 50.66 seconds.
In the Women’s 200m breast-stroke final heat, Kanako Watanabe of Japan took home the gold medal on the podium by posting a winning time of 2 minutes and 25.52 seconds. Lisa Fissneider of Italy snared silver in a time of 2 minutes and 26.01 seconds, whereas,
Irina Novikova of Russia snatched bronze with a mark of 2 minutes and 26.04 seconds.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Maria Temnikova wound up fourth in a time of 2 minutes and 27.77 seconds and Spain’s Urzainqui Garcia rounded out the top five in 2 minutes and 28.56 seconds.
Last, but not the least, the Women’s 200m Individual Medley title was clinched by Cortes Gomez with a victorious mark of 2 minutes and 13.57 seconds. Emu Higuchi of Japan earned silver in a time of 2 minutes and 13.96 seconds, while Hodgson Seltenreich of
Canada captured bronze with an impressive mark of 2 minutes and 15.62 seconds.
In the corresponding swim, Lisa Zaiser of Australia was placed fourth with a time of 2 minutes and 16.35 seconds and Taylor McKeown of Australia settled fifth with a matchless time of 2 minutes and 16.53 seconds. Allison Brown of United States of America
earned sixth place honours with a time of 2 minutes and 16.72 seconds.
The arena gave a huge round of applause for the scintillating swims of all swimmers, while the winners were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
