  1. I was there last week. Everybody has great suggestions. I loved the Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, right next to the Pantheon. It's the only Gothic church in Rome. Also I suggest the Piazza del Popolo, the Borghese Gallery, the Vatican Museum, San Clemente, Sant'Ignazio (note it has a false dome, and the Keats-Shelley house on the Spanish Steps. If you don't want to plan out your trip, just take a stroll and you'll see a million things.

  2. Don't miss the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo's paintings. It is amazing.

The Trevi Fountain was definitely my favorite.

Also, be sure to eat some gelato! Soooo yummy.

I think it's fun to just walk on the side streets too. There's some good shopping.

    Have fun!!!

  3. 1.- Saint Peter's Basilica

    2.- Spanish Steps - Built in 1723 - 1725

3.- Trevi Fountain - A traditional legend holds that if visitors throw a coin into the fountain, they are ensured a return to Rome. Among those who are unaware that the "three coins" of Three Coins in the Fountain were thrown by three different individuals, a reported current interpretation is that two coins will ensure a marriage will occur soon, while three coins leads to a divorce. A reported current version of this legend is that it is lucky to throw three coins with one's right hand over one's left shoulder into the Trevi Fountain.

Approximately 3,000 Euros are thrown into the fountain each day and are collected at night. The money has been used to subsidize a supermarket for Rome's needy. However, there are regular attempts to steal coins from the fountain, including some using a magnetized pole.

4.- Capuchin Crypt – If you love scary movies and haunted houses, make sure you visit the Capuchin Crypt.  The bones of thousands of deceased monks have been used to decorate every surface in the most macabre designs.  The admission charge is a donation and it is open 9:00 am until noon, 3:00 pm to 6:00pm from Friday to Wednesday.

5.- Pyramid of Caius Cestius – Just like the Egyptian’s, many ancient Romans used to build their tombs as pyramids – the Pyramid of Caius Cestius is the only survivor.  It was made to form part of the defensive wall around the city.

  4. Well Vatican City is technically in Rome so I would say that the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel is definately a must!

The Trevi Fountain is beautiful but always packed with tourists.

The Roman catacombs are definately a worthwhile experience and are easily accesed by bus.

The Borghese is a large park near the Piazza de Spagna, it features the Galleria Borghese which has a large collection of Italian masters.

Also check out Travestere, it is an area of Rome that is not overfun with tourists and will give you a sense of Italian life.

  5. Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere.

And don't forget to check out the local street markets around town. (Porta Portese flea market)

    Its amazing.

  6. Castel Sant Angelo and its angel bridge

climb to the top of St. Peter's dome and enjoy the fabulous view of the city

Mouth of Truth (the movie Roman Holiday shows Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn here)

    Spanish Steps
