Top-five to watch out for in Barclays Kenya Open on Challenge Tour next week Part-1
Challenge Tour season is warming up too and is now headed towards its third event of the year, The Barclays Kenya Open, and will feature some of the top-ranked Challenge Tour players on the field.
Set at the scenic Muthaiga Golf Club, the star-studded event will kick off on March 29 and the players are now ready to leave for Nairobi in a short while.
Chris Lloyd, the 20-year-old from Bristol, is among the sturdy field and will be hoping to kick off the event in the same fashion he did last year.
Lloyd pulled in a massive six-under, 65 in his Rookie season but was not able to capitalise on the early gains over the weekend.
He finished for an impressive 28th on the Challenge Tour rankings at the end of the season.
He said, “I've had two good finishes now so hopefully I can carry that on in Kenya. I finished second in my fourth event in Italy last year too so I would like to finally get that win this season”.
Although still short of his first win on the tour, Lloyd has pulled in remarkable performances this year.
He bagged the eighth spot in Gujarat Kensville Challenge and a tied runner-up finish at the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Classic. He added, “I’m still craving that first win”.
Also on the field will be the South African Tyrone Ferreira, who carded an impressive Runner up finish in last year’s Barclays Kenya Open.
Ferreira is a close friend of Branden Grace and is hoping to emulate his friend’s impressive back-to-back victories on the European Tour earlier this year.
He said, “I'm going to try and finish top 20 this year and get a European Tour card. I know I need to work hard this season. As Branden has proved, it takes just one good week to get you on track so I need to work hard to try and catch up with him”.
Meanwhile Andréas Harto, who ransacked the Challenge Tour two years ago after winning ECCO Tour Championship as an amateur will also be part of the field.
He carded his first professional victory, Roma Golf Open presented by REZZA, winning his European Tour card.
He failed to make an impression on the mainstream professional circuit and returned to Challenge Tour last year.
To be continued...
