He has been in contention since the beginning of the current year finishing third in the Gujurat Kensville Challenge and tenth in the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Classic.
Also among the aspiring contenders, is Michiel Bothma from Pretoria who surged to the top of the leaderboard in last year’s event, landing the title by two strokes.
The South African believes his ability to read the tricky Greens at the Muthaiga Golf Club helped him immensely to land the title.
He said, "The course suits me. I like hitting wedges to greens and the greens are pretty receptive and I think it’s a putting course.
"It’s not easy making putts around there but somehow I just read the greens very well and I think that’s why it suits me because once you read the greens and make a lot of putts, the ball-striking doesn’t have to be all that great to make a good score".
The veteran has already carded a whooping joint third in Joburg Open on The European Tour earlier in the year.
The achievement will prove elementary to his confidence in the upcoming event on the secondary tour.
Nick Dougherty is also one of the hopefuls in Kenya next week and will be relying on his newly gained top form.
He finished for an impressive joint fourth at Pacific Rubiales Colombia Classic, in his debut season.
Dougherty was born in Bootle, Merseyside, and attended Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School near Blackburn, Lancashire.
He participated in the 2001 Walker Cup and led the Great Britain & Ireland team to a grand victory.
He turned professional the same year and has been part of the Challenge Tour and European Tour on and off in his career.
He joined the mainstream European Tour in 2002 through the Qualifying round and went over to win three European Tour titles in his grizzled career.
His highest finish in a major event came in the US Open in 2007 when he finished for a strong joint seventh. The Englishman had to suffer a disappointing season in 2008 when his mother died.
Dougherty is coming out of a laid off season in the winters and will be returning to professional circuit after a lapse of several months.
