Top five winning teams at the end of first half of 2011 MLB season - Part-1
Just a day before All-Star competition is going to play, it would be better to know which team is leading the Major League Baseball in wins with their ballistic impetus. People, who are rushing towards the stadium for the All-Star game, would definitely
be excited to see their affiliated team’s players in action.
Until July 10, when the first half of the 2011 regular season has ended and the teams have created some unbelievable wins and faced some humiliating losses, the fans are trying to locate the chart leader to know why this player is in the All-Star.
Here is the list of top five winning teams at the end of the first half in 2011 MLB regular season.
Philadelphia Phillies
Cracking orthodox way of pitching to crush the opposition helped the Philadelphia Phillies take the first spot with 57 wins. After playing 91 games, the Phillies proved why they were said to be the Number one team in the Majors by experts even before the
start of the season. They snatched 57 games and lost 34, minimum than any other team and have a brilliant .626 Pythagorean Winning Percentages (PCT).
The team put on a real show in home games, where they did not let any opposition, whether it is Boston Red Sox or Atlanta Braves, to make any mark. They crushed others in 34 fixtures and allowed only 15 wins at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia of Pennsylvania.
However, on the road they struggled, managing to win 23 and dropping to 19 competitions in the first half of the 2011 regular season.
Having Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels and Drew Carpenter, the National League’s Central club not only earned more wins, an exceptional PCT, most home wins, lowest number of losses, but also allowed the lowest number of scores in total 91 games. Allowing
295 runs, the Phillies pitching depth is leading the National League with their brilliant records.
However, the Phillies batting line-up struggled throughout the season and according to experts, they need to get their impetus at the right level as soon as possible otherwise the oppositions could shatter them like a wounded lion.
Boston Red Sox
Having a surprise appearance in the top teams, the Boston Red Sox is the only team, who lost five consecutive five-games in the start of the season in April. However, as soon as they snatched their first three-consecutive games of the season against the
Toronto Blue Jays, the Red Sox encountered in a stormy manner and destroyed every team that came their way.
Performing equally well at home and on the road, Boston managed to grab 55 wins and lost just 35 games despite the critics had predicted their whitewash. They won 28 games at home and 27 away to make their PCT to .611, the second highest until the end of
the first half. The club has grabbed 13 series, nine of which were sweeps.
Their best performance was when they snatched nine consecutive games, three each against Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays. Their 482 runs tell the story of their batting depth that bashed every pitcher including Halladay, Carsten
Charles Sabathia, Tim Lincecum and others.
However, the American League’s pitchers struggled and allowed 371 runs over their 90 games. Out of 55 wins, their starters played just eight shut-out games. The way they made their comeback after receiving blow in the start of the season, shows their maturity
and devotion to game and with such an ambition they might get closer to snatch another World Series.
