Top four teams for the World Group Davis Cup 2011
The draw for 2011 Davis Cup is scheduled to be held in Brussels on the 22nd September, this season. A total of sixteen countries take part in the World Group of the Davis Cup tennis competition every season, out of which eight are seeded and the
other eight are unseeded.
The two runner ups of the last year’s edition form the two halves of the section.
Here is a brief look at the top four teams in the World Group for Davis Cup next year.
1. Serbia
The top seeded Serbian side will enter into the next season’s Davis Cup tennis competition on the back of a terrific come-back versus the Czech Republic in the semis contested in Belgrade. Their tale in this season’s Cup, however, has not yet concluded.
This year marks their very first run in the final of the Davis Cup tennis competition.
It was the two Serbian players at the United States Open, Tipsarevic and Djokovic, who bailed out their nation’s Davis Cup ambitions.
Novak refused to contest in singles on the opening day and it was no shock that his countryman Troicki was found wanting in the opening rubber.
However, Tipsarevic led the counter-attack defeating Tomas Berdych to tie the scores at 1-1.
Serbia fell in the doubles, however, a rested Novak, apparently recovered after an injury timeout, brought his side back into the reckoning; the player at the receiving end was the unfortunate Tomas again.
It then fell to Tipsarevic to crush Stefanek in the last rubber and Serbia are now historically poised to grab their very first Davis Cup.
2. France
France had no issues in advancing into its tenth final of the Davis Cup tennis competition beating a lacklustre Argentina.
On the opening two days, it was the ever under puffed Gael Monfils and the volley and serve magician Michael Llodra who took charge of the French brigade. David Nalbandian and Juan Monaco also battled courageously however failed to stem the tide.
On the next day, Clement who toppled Cypriot-Baghdatis at the United States Open tennis tournament and Llodra teamed up to get past the Argentinean duo of Eduardo Schwank and Horacio Zeballos, triumphing in straight sets .
The formalities were concluded on Sunday, with Simon and Clement recording facile wins over Eduardo Schwank and Horacio Zeballos.
It was, as though, the French tennis players outing at the Flushing Meadows was however a curtain-raiser heading to this significant event.
3. Spain
The Spanish side is currently ranked number one in the world and though defeated this season by France in the quarters were champions back in 2009.
They can call upon the services of Tommy Robredo, Rafael Nadal, Feliciano Lopez, David Ferrer, Fernando Verdasco as well as Nicolas Almagro who are among the well known ones.
However, the question is that will they be able to repeat their last year’s glory?
It all depends on actually who is going to be available for the contest.
However they do miss that player, Rafael Nadal as this season’s drubbing at the hands of favourites France showed.
4. Czech Republic
The Czech side may have succumbed at the hands of Serbian falcons. However, they still go into next season’s edition as seeded number four.
There well known players include Lukas Dlouhy, Radek Stepanek as well as Tomas Berdych (the Indian tennis fans will recognize him as the doubles partner of Laender Paes).
They have successfully managed to make their way into the finals just on a single occasion before succumbing at the hands of all-conquering Spanish conquistadors back in 2009.
